Borderline Broke and Need to Get My Sons Clothes.??

I am on such a tight budget that we do just about nothing in our free time or buy any extras. I manage to get by with what I make but now they need new clothes. If any of you other moms out there have two very hyper boys, then you know what their clothes look like at the end of the day. Their dad won't help. He buys clothes for them and keeps them at his house with the word 'DAD' marked on the tags in permenant black marker and they are not allowed to wear them home. They are only with him every other weekend and Tuesday nights. I asked him to help a little with haircuts and he refuses. he still lives with his parents and makes big bucks. Well, the facts are I need to get them some clothes, whether new, used or hand-me-downs. Do any of you bargain-shoppers know how I can get the best deals and where. I'm not too proud to take second hand clothes. Please let me know. They're starting to look like raga-muffins.

What can I do next?

I found some fantastic stuff at second hand clothing stores. Some of the clothes weren't even worn before yet, they were still being sold for super low prices. Some of these places sell stuff for babies up to big kids. Good luck.

Hi H..
it's not easy being a single mom. I have many friends in your situation and all I can say is keep up the good work.

I don't know what area you are from...at my church in Old Bridge, NJ they have a ministry called Broken Loaves. They help out with people who need food or CLOTHING. I just thought I could give you their number and you can call and see if they have anything for your kids' sizes or whatever. They are all so great there and have helped so many people. The number is: ###-###-#### and ask for Broken Loaves.

Hope this helps. God bless you.

Hi H.- I have found that Kohl's has a great line called Jumping Beans where the pieces are often 2 for 10 or 2 for 12 depending on the size you need. They also go on sale pretty regularly. I have two girls who are hard on clothes and they have held up well. They do tend to run a little small so you might want to have the boys try them on before you wash them. Good luck!

H. - go to www.Freecycle.org - you can sign up for a chapter closest to you. People always post tons of things for free that you can get, including children's clothes, and you can put in a request. However, before you take something, I think you have to post something you have to give a way, just once when you first sign up. But, it can be like a pot, or a bar of soap, nothing fancy. I've given away a lot of stuff in great condition. Good luck.

Hi H.,
First, sorry to hear you are having such a tough time financially. I would like to know what sizes your boys are in, I have a step son, and alot of family. I would love to help you out, if you would like. Please email me and we could discuss this further. I can either place the clothes in bags for you to pick up at your convience or maybe meet at mutual spot. Not sure where you live, but if you live near the Fairless Hills area---near the Oxford Valley Mall. I could help you out with some clothes.
Otherwise, there's this terrific resale store across from Emilie Christian Church on New Falls road, called Kidsville. They sell wonderful clothes and at a decent low cost price. I have gone there, I have a 1 year daughter and 4 other children. So I know how you feel, when it comes time to buy new clothes with a tight budget! Let me know. My email address is ____@____.com
Take care, and I hope all gets better soon!

Hi H.,
First of all, I am sorry your sons' father is being that way. I am sure that is hard on you. www.smartmomssale.com has 2 locations. They have great clothes and more. On Sunday, everything is half off. I am not sure where you live, but the St. John the Evangelist Kids Korner sale is also great and the Lawrenceville Elementary School on Craven Lane in NJ also have brand name clothes for good prices at their rummage sale. Have you tried ebay? Just watch out for the shipping charges. Hope this helps! Take care. T.

Try Freecycle.org and locate your local chapter. Often, people are recycling lots of nice stuff there. I always offer up gently used clothes, and also recieve some too. It's a great site, check it out! Usually they are on yahoo groups. Also, we look for stuff at the goodwill. There are always tons of kids clothes with tags, etc. With as fast as they go through the clothes, I don't see much sense in buying new all the time. :)
