Hi Ladies,

My kids are probably old enough, tall enough, and weigh enough to not have to use their booster seats any more. Does anyone know the height/weight requirement to be done with those?

Thanks!

What can I do next?

The law in Kansas is 8 y/o or 80 lbs., but to be truely safe you child needs to be 4' 9" & his/her knees need to bend over the seat while their backs/pelvis are completely against the seat.
Call your local police department for your states laws.
My son is 8.5 y/o, 65# & 4' 3" & I will not allow him to ride w/o his booster until he is 4' 9" & tall enough that his knees bend over the seat while he is sitting & his pelvis/back is completely against the seat.

God bless!

The bare minimum is 8yrs, 80lbs, and 4'9" tall. You want your child to pass the five step test before taking them out of booster seats....

1. Sit with back against the seat
2. Knees bent at the edge of the seat
3. Feet flat on the floor
4. Lap belt low on the hips
5. Chest belt laying across chest properly and onto shoulder properly.

If you children don't meet even ONE of these steps, a booster seat is still necessary. My son is 8yrs old, 60lbs and 53" tall, but he still requires a booster seat, the lap belt doens't fit him properly and I'd rather have him in a booster than have him die in a crash.

Michigan law says age 8 or 80 pounds--experts prefer to go by weight. The longer they are in the booster seat the safer the are. It's a pain, but true!

i don't know about weight limit in michigan, but i do know, that it's 4'8" OR 8 years old. my stepson beat the height at about 7, but we kept him in the seat until he was about 8, and we had to move him out of it.

I would definatly make sure the lap belt fits the right way, otherwise, some cars have a strap you can use to make the belt come down some so it fits the shoulders properly. We use that and it really does help out a lot.

If you want to be sure, call the local police department and they can help you out with the requirements, and they might even be able to help you if you took the kids in their, and they could show you how the seatbelts should fit each kid. i know I have another car seat to put in my car, and i am heading to the police department for them to check it out and make sure it's done properly
