Booster Seat Smells like Urine :(
hi Mamma's,
My 6 year old had her first UTI.. She was having trouble making it to the bathroom in time.. She had an accident in her booster late at night after our trip to the ER.. So I admit I cleaned it with resolve carpet cleaner and thought it would be ok.. its not.. still smells.. So after 30 mins of wrestling the seat out from the latch system I got it inside and took off the cover and took the whole booster seat apart.. Even though Britax says not to put it in the wash I threw it and it still has a faint smell. Also any advice for cleaning the straps would be great.. I looked online and a cover for the regants booster was 45 dollars and I don't have the extra money..
Thank you for your help,
L.
So What Happened?™
Thank you for all your help :)
I went to pet smart today I found nature's Miracle and it's not (the booster cover) 100 percent dry.. But I call tell already what a diference the spray made.. I also sprayed the straps too.. Then at the grocery store I picked up some vinager..
L.

My 4 yrs old neice stayed over this wknd and wet the bed, so I was online looking for the same remedy. What I found was a solution of 1 part dish washing liquid and 1 part vinigar to wash it w/ a scrub brush, after that put cornstarch or baking soda on it to absorb the dampness and vacuumm it off once it drys.

Kids n Pets works great. Just pour it on rub in and let dry. Don't have to rinse and doen't smell up the place.

I was going to mention Natures Miracle or some sort of other pet urine enzyme solution. Pure Ayre is a good spray to remove odor too. Better for the environment than Fabreeze and works better. Good Luck.

L., your first response from Elaine is on the money. I've tried everything before to get out urine smells (both animal and child) -- Febreze, Nature's Miracle, vinegar, Kids n Pets, you name it. What has worked the best for me is a combination of hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and dish soap that someone told me about: mix one 16-oz bottle peroxide with 2 teaspoons baking soda and 2 drops dish soap. Stir to dissolve the baking soda, then pour on your seat cover until it is saturated. Then let it air dry (this is important -- don't put it in the dryer). It will smell while it is drying but once dry, it will be fine. My daughter is potty training and I keep some mixed up in a spray bottle to spray on her clothes when she has accidents. I even use it in my trash cans and diaper pail and it gets the smells out.

throw the car seat cover back in the wash with about a half cup of white vinegar (REALLY cheap) and your regular detergent. I have only ever had this not work to get smells out of stuff ONCE. And it always works for me on urine smells (I have a bedwetter (= ). Good luck, all will be well.

We have used Febreeze and it seems to work pretty well. Of course sometimes it requires two spray and dry applications. But for the most part it works well. As for the straps a baby wipe or just soaking them in warm water is about the only thing you should do. Soaps tend to breakdown the strength of the strap material, so they don't recommend every washing them.

How about some white vinegar? Add a cup, soak in it everything you can and rinse it very well AFTER!
