Books on CD

I'm taking a long car ride by myself and wanted to have the option to listen to a book on tape rather than music.

I'm trying to find how long a book on CD typically is. Yes, it is determined by the length of the book itself, but there must be general guidelines.... The description of the book I'm considering says for the audio CD is 9 pages. Is there any way to tell how long it may take to listen to it?

TIA!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Very helpful thanks! The 9 pages came from the Amazon description, which I found confusing too.

9 pages doesn't make sense. 9 CD's? That would make more sense.

Each CD is usually 60 to 70 minutes long. Recently I listened to a book that was about 800 pages, and that translated into 33 CD's. Another book I read years ago was about 450 pages and was only 10 CD's.

But if you just estimate that each CD is 60 to 70 minutes, that should give you a really good idea.

I would say your average book is between 10-15 hours of listening (or I would say an hour per disk if it is a CD) I LOVE books on tape for trips! It makes it go by so much faster!!

Check out your library for a great and free selection.

I downloaded a 540-something page book onto my phone via the kindle app and paid $3.99 to upgrade to audio for a long car trip. I'm so glad I did! I was on the road for 8 hours last week...and I'm still not done with the book! I love that I can switch back and forth between audio or text as I like.

Listening to a book takes a LOT longer than just reading it, but it's still nice. I can usually read about 250-300 pages a day, depending upon the book, but it's much less while listening.

You could check your local public library - my guess is that the back of the case will tell you how long it is. You could check out several books in different styles, and have a choice of what to listen to - at no cost. If you wind up hating one after the first hour, you've lost nothing. Just pop it out and try another one!

I think it's interesting to listen to various celebrities read the books.

Yes, the audio book case will state how many CDs and how long it takes to listen to it. I SWEAR by books on CD! They pass the time wonderfully on long trips, and it gives me a chance to get immersed in a story I probably wouldn't have read myself. Something about hearing a story out loud engages the brain in a primal way--that's how humans experienced stories for most of our existence as a species. I think we are hard-wired to connect with it. I also find that I stay alert listening to them, which is a big thing because I tend to get dozy on long drives.

For future reference, my kids love listening to books on CD too, and our town library has a big collection. We have been able to do 7 or 8 hour drives with them sanely thanks to them, and sometimes we listen to them just when we go around town. You might try it out with them.

Yes, the cover will tell you the length in time. I check out CD books from the library every 2-3 weeks. I take them on trips too. If they become due before I get home, I renew them.

If you don't have the COOK yet, you can look it up on Amazon or Barnes and Noble. I think hey give the length in time.

CD books don't have pages. I'm thinking you mean disks.

Have you looked at Barns and Noble's website? They usually tell you how many disks and how long. I just looked up the book I'm currevtly reading, and it says 36 CD's and 43 hours, 45 minutes.
