Body Odor - Berwyn,IL

I am wondering if anyone else has come across this issue and had a successful way to solve it--or at least reduce. My daughter has this body odor that is unbelievable. When she gets home from school we have to make her take a shower because it smells up the entire room she is in. I had mentioned it to the doctor at her last visit and she suggested that some girls get body odor when they are nearing and in puberty. It has not come yet but the smell really is overwhelming. Now she does tend to go without socks and we make her get them on. I have gotten rid of old shoes so the smell can't stick around. She has mutiple pairs of shoes to wear so she does not wear the same pair every day. The smell seems to mostly come from her feet and has gotten worse over teh past 3 months. She does not get a lot of sugar, rarely gets soda at all. I try to feed them healthy foods and there are no food allergies so nothing there. Has anyone had this happen and what did you do? The main problem is her feet. I was home today and could not stand to be in the room with her! BTW, she usually showers every other day so that is not the problem. The only issue is her feet, not anywhere else on her body.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Well, I still have to fight with her to wash her feet after school. Unfortunately, I cannot throw away her boots yet and stores have sold out by now. I have told her that as soon as snow if gone for good they are going int he trash. I am going to try the epsom salt thing as well as the tea. I did try the tea for myself but didn't get any changes, though I am not nearly as bad as she has gotten. I just have a problem in the winter when we wear closed up boots and such. I do have tea tree oil and totally forgot about using it for this for her so will try it as well. She cannto take showers everyday due to skin issues so just have to keep fighting with her to wash her feet after school. It has not been as bad as last week but...phew! Thanks for all the suggestions.
I just thought I would update since I have gotten a lot for responses. My daughter gets extremely bad excema on her legs, especially her thighs. It is not as bad as when she was younger but per the doctor, she is taking showers every other day unless she is really active. I have washed her shoes more often and bought her another pair. The boots have been trashed (and of course it snowed yesterday, go figure)She has been tested for food allergies and every thing came up as having none. We did this when she was 4 and again 2 years ago wondering if it had anything to do with her behavior. We tried the soak in black tea but didn't see a difference. I have tea tree oil that I bought awhile ago and it is really good so once I get a spray bottle we will use it.

Had the same problem with my son. Got him on Shaklee Alfalfa and the problem went away in days. I still take the Alfalfa and it deodorizes so well, that when I wear a perfume, the smell is gone in just minutes. Using Alfafa, has a lot of great benefits. No body odor is just one. of them.

My daughter has the same problem. We use the foot spray and it works wonders. Once she can wear sandals and flip flops it isn't as bad but in the winter when she is wearing tennis shoes, she has to wear socks and we spray her feet in the mornings. We also sometimes just wash her feet before spraying them. I also wash her shoes frequently and she does switch them. Good luck.

My husband sometimes has the same foot issue with his work boots. A cheap solution for us was to put some isopropol alcohol into a spray bottle and douse the inner portion of the shoes daily. This has worked much better at killing the odor causing bacteria than expensive powders, etc, and was recomended by his doc.

My brother has used this one for years, but it would have been nice if he could of found this remedy before he was in his 30's. We put up with a lifetime of smelly shoes and feet. Hope it helps!
Black tea. Soak tootsies in black tea. Tannic acid, a component of tea, is thought to have astringent properties that prevent feet from perspiring. To make a foot-tea soak, brew 5 bags black tea in 1 quart boiling water. Let cool, add ice cubes (during summertime), and soak in this "iced tea for the toes" bath for 20 to 30 minutes.

I also recommend the tea foot bath. Here is a link that describes the process and give other general recommendations for dealing with foot odor.

For her shoes try, putting some baking soda, epsom salt and a few drops of peppermint and euclyptus oil in a new sock and trying the end closed. when she get home from school put them inside the shoe. The soda and salt with help to dry out the dampness and the oils will help neutralize the smell. I use this on my dance shoes and it seem to work. Also try rubbing a lotion with peppermint oil on to her feet after she gets out of the shower thickly then put a couple of sandwich bags on her feet with warm wet socks over then for 10 min. This will help the oil get absorbed into her skin.

Hey, I've had shoes that reeked and I have put wadded up newspaper inside the shoes and left them for a day or two. When the paper comes out, the shoes smell much better. You just have to be diligent in doing this everytime the shoes are not in use. Helps to change the paper each time, too!! Also, for the tootsies, after you wash them with antibacterial soap, try spritzing them with either Listerine or white table vinegar. (I know, it sounds crazy, but it will work!) Good luck.

I know you posted this a bit ago, but I thought I'd put a little more out there for you to try.

Try rock deoderant, it can be gotten at whole foods. You wet it and rub it wherever she tends to get smelly. It prevents the bacteria from multiplying on the sweat and body oils.

Have her consume parsley, or parsley oil capsules. It has an anti odor property.

If it is truly that bad have her checked for diabetes and celiac disease(this is what I am thinking) due to the smell and the skin problems.

Go clean with her diet. No dyes, preservatives. This includes on her skin too. So use a natural soap with no dye, extra perfumes, lotions. For moisture, use simple things like straight clear olive oil(a little goes a long way).

Make her drink water, just water. About 6 cups of it a day. No juice, even if natural.

Lower her carbohydrate intake.

No fake sugar either including splenda, aspartame and any other chemical concocted sweetener.

Hopefully something I have said or one of the others have said gives you some ideas.
