I would see a breast specialist rather than a general surgeon. Sad to say few doctors really understand the anatomy and physiology of the breast- best to see someone who does.

Hi I know I had this procedure years ago. I had breast feed my son but still had milk 2o years later, sounds strange not a lot of milk only on one breast and, usually would come out only when squeezed. They injected dye through the nipple and did xray I think. I did it years ago when it was new and they didn't numb my breast only used a hot cloth, that didn't help at all, even when I went in the nurses gave me a look like oh your getting that poor thing. Find out more about what they do it wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't so painful. I don't want to scare you maybe see a breast specialist first, it could just be blood vessels from breast feeding being ruptured.By the way they found nothing wrong with me, probably just had a little of the hormone working that produces milk. Again its not a bad procedure as long as now in days they use pain meds for you. Wish ya luck A.

Yes, definitely see a breast specialist. In fact, my regular doctor misdiagnosed me - I didn't feel quite right with what she said, and my gut told me to get a second opinion. And it was a lactation consultant that gave me the name of a breast specialist. During the first consultation with the specialist, she performed an ultrasound. Definitely less invasive than injecting dyes! With the ultrasound, she was able to rule out that I had intraductal papiloma which is common in women who have bloody nipple discharge.

I would encourage you to see the specialist, just for your own peace of mind. You want someone who knows what they are doing and talking about.

All the best, C.!

Is there blood being discharged? Is it a blood blister? Is it swollen or inflamed? Are you lactating? Is the discharge spontaneous or only when you squeeze? I'm not sure I understand the situation. We use Doctor Karen Federici at Family First Physcians. I love that she does family practice deliveries and she is also becoming an IBCLC. She's great with breast and lactation issues. It sounds like you likely need to see a specialist - but I wouldn't see a general surgeon. I would request a breast specialist. You could call your doc back and tell them you want a referral to a breast specialist. I wouldn't mess around with a general surgeon. I recently wasted two years of my life b/c a general doc sent me toa "general" instead of a specialist. Now I know to just hunt down an expert.

Good luck!
