Blood Test Results Came in Dr. Needs to See Me Right Away!

I find my self in a very similar situation as one of the requests I read earlier today. I am 14wks pregnant, I confirmed my pregnancy about 2wks ago at that time they also did blood work. I get a call today from the Doctor's office telling me the Dr. needs to see me right away!! I am going in 1st thing tommorrow morning. I am scared panicked and with everything that has been going on in my life lately, this is the icing on the cake. What do they check for when they do prenatal blood work?? I know they do hiv. Help please

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thank you all so much for your advice and support. It turns out that I guess the P.A. that normally covers for the doctor wanted to see me as soon as possible because simply she hadn't seen me yet (very bad grammar ha!) and was not aware that I had an apt for tommorrow. It turns out that the blood test was good, I had slight anemia (for which she Rx FeSulfate & Ca) and hiv screening was reactive so they did a more thorough analysis came out negative. She's very thorough and on top of things and had some more blood work done and other things to ensure that the baby and I are well taken care of. (the special treatment is reassuring). I go tommorrow for my 1st u/s. Thanks again everyone!

A., I don't remember all the things they check for, at that time. It could be the Alfa-Fetal Protein (MFAFP), right? Yes, HIV is one of the first tests. The best advice I can give you is: What is, IS. You can worry yourself sick tonight and you'd NEVER guess what it is. Too many possibilities - one being that you may be further along than you thought. You have to get some rest tonight. Take a bath, light a candle, and relax. Nothing has changed. Don't panic until there's news.

It sounds like something could be wrong...try to stay in the now and just keep faith. Listen to the Dr. and see what he has to say. Unless they tested specifically for HIV, it is probabley something else. Remember you are a women with choices and the Dr. will not guide you wrong and you can also get a 2nd opinion. Try not to worry to much, it may not be serious at all.....stay in the now and stay strong.

Best of luck - M.

Hi -- Glad you got that handled! Now that you will be going though pregnancy -- best book is "Let's Have Healthy Children" by Adelle Davis. Her advices work. I followed that book on my first pregnancy, had minimal morning sickness and gave birth to a beautiful girl with very even facial features, her teeth grew in straight, never needed braces, and it was an easy birth. Adelle Davis shows drawings of baby's faces with different vitamin deficiencies then the face of her daughter which was perfectly balanced -- so was my daughter's face. I also slept between contractions, didn't tear, didn't need an episiotomy (however it's spelled), and I turned 31 the day after she was born. As I was older and not particularly physically fit, I am sure her recommendations worked. Have a great pregnancy. Best, K. S.

I hope everything goes good for you today. Its such a scarry feeling. My Doctor told me not to worrie everything looks great but their is still part of me that is afraid! Please let me know how your Apt. goes today. I will be thinking of you!

I heard a speaker recently who talked all about health and nutrition. I was blown away by the pregnancy study results. If I can get my hands on the chart she showed, I'll email it to you. Basically, it compared pregnant women that took nothing, pregnant women who took prenatal vitamins, and those who took both prenatal vitamins AND Juice Plus. When measuring the incident rate of several conditions (miscarriage, low birth weight, preclampsia and several others), the patients taking both prenatal vitamins and Juice Plus had none of these conditions and their babies were born healthier! So make sure you are taking both prenatals and Juice Plus daily.

Hi A.,
I can't give you an answer to your question, but make sure your husband is going with you to the doctor to support you and help ask the doctor any questions. 2 minds work better than one. Trust your doctor and know that these days there is alot they can do to help whatever that may be. I wish you the best.
