Blood Pressure Issues in Later Pregnancy

Just curious if any of you mamas that had pre-eclampsia or gestational hypertension in your first pregnancy had any problems with a second or third pregnancy? I was on bedrest from 33 wks on when pregnant with my one and only (he was born happy and healthy at term thankfully), and now that we are considering trying for baby #2 it's been on my mind. Just interested in what you all have experienced in real life, planning on talking to my doctor at my next appointment (before we start trying).

What can I do next?

With each of my pregnancies my BP creeps up. It has never been high enough to be treated with medication, and I've never had more than a trace of protein in my urine (with #3). I'm currently 29 wks along with #4 and my BP is again creeping, but so far there is no protein in my urine. I'm doing a better job this time around of avoiding processed foods (so controlling my sodium intake) and staying well hydrated.

I had preeclampsia with my first and put on bedrest a month before my due date. They ended up taking him at 38 weeks and he was very healthy. When I had my second three and a half years later I did not have the problems with my blood pressure. So just cause you have it with the first does not mean you will with the second.

For me baby #1 was a breeze, but she came almost 5 weeks early. With baby #2 (and final) I was pre-eclampsic and they induced at 36 weeks because of my BP. I went to my weekly check and doctor said go home, get your bag and meet me at the hospital. Baby was perfect, healthy, happy and big, for being born at 36 weeks everyone was surprised when he weighted 7.5lbs. I think every pregnancy is different. Good Luck :)

I developed eclampsia during delivery with my first.

No issues at all with my second, although they did monitor me closely and treat me as high risk.

I had preeclampsia with my first. I wasn't put on bed rest, but I had quit working and take it easy. I was induced a bit early because they were concerned with my climbing blood pressure. I had absolutely no blood pressure issues at all with number two.

I had pregnancy hypertension with #1. 150 /100 at 28 weeks.. was at the er...I was off work for 2 weeks then I was allowed to go back 20 hours.. desk duty only. I was put on meds and it was controlled until the last week.. when the bp went up again.

the 2nd pregnancy the bp was slightly elevated but no meds were needed.. I worked till the day prior to being induced..

both kids were fine.. and yes the 2nd preg was easier and the bp was much better.

I had PIH with my first. I had an extremely stressful delivery (c-section with ineffective anesthetic) and my BP shot to 210/180 at one point. I was on medication for several months after delivery to keep it down and it took about 6 months to get back to normal. With #2, I had no BP issues, 120/80 during labor and the first check right after delivery. BUT, I was also much more aware during my second pregnancy that I had to take care of myself. By that, I mean taking it easy, not trying to prove I was superwoman every second, eating right, and exercising properly. I would highly recommend Bradley classes or at least the Bradley diet to help keep the BP down.
In general, preeclampsia is more common in first pregnancies.
