So today I went to the bathroom and was constipted, when I wiped there was blood in my stool. I know it was from there cause it was also in the stool. I have had bouts of hemroids and wondered if I shoul be really concerned, or was it just form the strain of pushing? I am waiting for a nurse to call em back but any advice while I am sitting here biting my nails would surely help, thanks ladies

What can I do next?

Yep...hemorroids, what a joy! You get bright red blood on toilet paper, nothing to worry about. You should get worried if the blood is hidden in the stool and it is not caused by the above-mentioned delightful pregnancy-linked illness. Have your stool examined to rule out any possible internal bleeding (i mean in the bowel) and remove your hemo when you recover from the delivery...you'll not regret it!!!

If it is bright red blood on the toilet paper or streaking the stool it is most likely from hemrhoids or a skin tear from hard stool. dark red blood is a sign that the bleeding came from further up in the intestinal tract and should be looked into. You did the right thing by calling the nurse at your dr's office, even if it is just for peace of mind.

sounds like hemroids. If you had a ton of blood in the water or black stool then I might be worried, but what you describe is soooooo typical of hemroids. Ask the nurse if it is okay to use witch hazel. Buy a bottle and use it to clean/wipe the area daily. It may help shrink things up in a natural way.

Eat lots of fruits and vegies and get some good fiber. And drink plenty of water with your fiber.

I'm sure it's from straining. It's scary, for sure, but hemorrhoids will bleed and it's not really the same thing as "blood in the stool".
This happens, not only just to women. My brother in law actually had to have surgery to help him out. It is such a personal subject, he wouldn't talk to anyone about it and wouldn't go to the doctor either. He felt so much better after he had them fixed he said he wished he hadn't waited so long.
So, in your case, being pregnant, I'm pretty positive it's just from straining, etc. Try taking a stool softener or drinking warm prune juice. It may be a wive's tale, but warm chocolate chip cookies right out of the oven are supposed to help also.
Talk to your doctor about the best ways to manage things through your pregnancy and discuss whether or not you need a little surgery to help after the baby is born.

Don't bite your nails off. Hang in there.
I wish you the best!

sounds good. i use to get blood in stool (so did my baby when i nursed) when i ate cabbge. So certain foods can do it to you too. a little scary when you see it but if you figure it out you feel better.

Sounds like the others have given you some good advice and I wanted to offer some things that helped me when i was pregnant with my first and had some constipation issues.
I upped my water intake (which I needed to do anyway), started eating pears everyday with some wheat germ sprinkled on top (really tasty and gave me added folic acid, protein), started eating raisin bran every day for breakfast or snack before bed and now they have those Fiber One bars. The bars are actually pretty tasty. I know there were some other things I did food wise to help because I wanted to avoid using any kind of medication over the counter or otherwise.
