Blood in Scrotum Sack of 4 Year Old

My son is almost 4 and has about a tablespoon of what appears blood in one of his scrotum sack for approximately 2 months now. We are having surgery Thursday to get the blood out and a small mass. The doctors are not sure what is going on. They have never seen this before. Not a hernia, hydro-seal and the testical looks fine as does the ultrsound of the area. Anyone experience anything like this before? It doesn't hurt him at all - no trauma to the area that we know of.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you for your wishes and prays. He is at school running around. The blood was not in the actual sack with the testicle. It was in the outer area so they had to go through the scrotum sack to reattach the testicle in its proper place. The doctor and pathologist looked at the mass under mircoscope before we left the hospital. He's calling it a BEIGN cyst but we will have a final report later this week. Children's Mpls does an excellent job - they even let him sit on my lap as he was going to sleep. (They probably will never know exactly what it was and hope it never comes back!!!) Thanks again for all your input and prayers.

One thing I want to tell you is if you wonder about anything ask questions! No Stupid Questions sometimes stupid answers. I've had to deal with a lot of drs. with my daughter and someone told me one time never be afraid to ask questions. That way you know exactly what's going on! It maybe a lot of things but as I always say face reality just don't dwell on it! Your in my thoughts and prayers and keep us posted okay?

My son had a hydrocele at age 4. I never noticed blood in his scrotum but I did notice his scrotum would get bigger and smaller at times. His was sensitive. He had the surgery and everything went fine. He was ready to run around later that day. We had to slow him down and make him rest.

I would recommend two things... ask tons of questions and don't be afraid to push the doctors or nurses a little bit. For example, I really wanted my husband or I in the room when he got his anesthesia. The nurses told me they did not think we could do that... it would be up to the doctor. I was not satisfied with that answer and pushed the subject a little more and they let my husband get in scrubs and go in. This was very comforting to my four year old that he could see daddy as he was "falling asleep". One other thing is that we checked some books out from the library about going to the hospital. There are some cute character books (Franklin goes to the hospital) where they explain everything that is going to happen in a way that kids can understand. This also was really helpful for my son.

Good luck. I was a nervous wreck. As soon as he left the room for surgery I cried for about five minutes. I will be thinking about you.

My son had similar thing years ago, he was like 12 but he had severe pain with it and they did emergency surg. at childrens Mpls. and he has never had another problem with it since then and he just got married in Dec. and all is well (I guess, lol). It is very scary I was affraid it might affect sterility etc. but they said no, that he would be fine and he was. My sons appeared after a baseball game he said it was his leg, but couldn't walk and finally said to get his dad so I did and thats when we realized it was in his scrotum. I called the pediatrician and they sent us directly to childrens. withing 15 minutes there he was being prepped for surg.
but surgery went fine, and he went home same day.

I really don't have any experience with what you explained, I just wanted to be a support. My son had an undescended testical and a hernia that they had to do surgery for, in surgery they also found the hydrocele. At least he is not in pain. Good luck in finding out what is going on. You are his voice so don't let the doctors off the hook until you can get some clearer answers!
My thoughts are with you!

It may be a varicocele. Do a little bit of research online about them. Can affect infertility down the road. Best to get it removed now. My husband had one and had it removed by thermal ablation. My friend had one that ended up "strangling" other "cords" down there, but had it removed and is fine now. Best wishes.

Wow... you probably thought of... but maybe a blood blister? Just made me think of something is rubbing him wrong? (I have gotten a couple blood blisters from nursing and pinching my skin in something at times.)
Good Luck Thursday!
