Benadryl and mylanta .... that is what my pediatrician recommended when my daughter had Hand Foot and Mouth disease. It seemed to help.

Good luck, I wish her a speedy recovery.

Poor baby! How about fruit popsicles, yogurt or smoothies? My kids like smoothies with frozen strawberries, a banana, half OJ and half apple juice. Hope she feels better soon :(

oil directly on the sores. Preferably an all natural vitamin e oil. I used Shaklee brand e capsules and just popped them open with a pin, but any brand will work. Untill you get to the store though, just before eating, a tiny bit of virgin olive oil on the sores will help soothe and help the food slide over rather than sting the sores. Just go to the health food isle and find a vitamin e capsule that says it's all natural and hypoallergenic. Or, just ask the pharmacist.

Yogurt has live cultures which really help with sores in the mouth - I learned that when I got really sick once & broke out with cold sores all over the inside of my mouth. :( I couldn't eat or drink much either, but the thick smooth consistency of the yogurt eased pain & helped out lots. I hope your little one feels better soon!

Instead of icecream get some gogurts and freeze them. They are a tad bit better for her and will make her feel like she is getting a treat. Some decaf tea would be good too. You can steep the teabags, add a bit of honey or sugar too it. The tannins should help with healing a bit.

Oh my god, we went through this too, in July!! My kid still has scars on the lip and near her mouth. She had blisters on her tongue, throat, cheeks, lips. She couldn't swallow and was crying every time she saw food or drink, because she wanted it, but it hurt her too much. It was TORTURE being a mom during this disease! My heart goes out to you. Nothing helped, and the fever lasted for days, with mild reprieves from tyleynol and ibuprofen administred back to back and doubling up when the fever hit 105.

Herpangina! It is very similar to the virus that causes Hand/Food/Mouth, but it's ONLY in the mouth, and about 3000 times more painful!!!

3 doctors and two advice nurses told us we had to wait for it to clear in about 8 days. 8 days later, my kid lost 10% of her body weight (and she's already in the 5th percentile), her regular pediatrician saw her, and said "I thought I'd had everything, but I caught this last year as a grown up and it's extraordinarily painful, and the only thing that helped me was acyclovir."

Boom.

25 minutes after her first dose, my kid was eating a happy meal. Her first meal that wasn't a lick of popsicle or a few sips of cold watery puree in DAYS. I also gave her sips of banana milkshake. They recommend you get fluids and fat into your kid one way or another. I threatened her with big shots and tubes full of fluids in the hospital, and that usually got her to take a sip. It was HELL to be the mommy, I hated every minute of it, but I was as desperate as yourself, and I did it. I scared my kid into eating even though it hurt her so much to do it and her sad, painful tears broke my heart into pieces.

Do not mess with "magic mouthwash" (this is the mylanta/benedryl mixture, and it does not work and it tastes awful.) or swabbing the blisters with benedryl, which worked slightly better, but still was useless because she'd pass out before I could get food into her. Get thee to the doctor and demand antivirals. It really really did help with Herpangina if that's what they said your kid has. Good luck!

Lysine helps with viruses and the blistering. There's a product called super lysine plus that works great. (Health food store) The liquid doesn't taste very good but is very effective. Also avoid sugar. It lowers the immune system response for about 5-6 hours after taking it. Someone mentioned alkalizing the body. This is also very important. A quick easy way is to give 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water 6 times the first day, 4 the second and 2 the third. Good luck.

I had similar issues when I was a kid. Ouch! My mom use to spray Cloriseptic directly on the sore. It was the only thing that gave me any relief. It does not last long, but it numbed the pain long enough for me to attempt eating. Not sure if it's okay for a 3 year old though. Good luck!

hi, i think sugar can make blisters worse, i am not sure i would give her ice cream. also milk could be increasing them as well, my mom is a holistic doctor, she used to say to me blisters are caused by heat, and milk can cause heat in the body. also sugar weakens the immune system and can make blisters even worse. just my two cents, hope she feels better!

Dear M.,
I still remember the vacations in Italy when that happened to me... They gave me raw eggs to drink and to this day I would not touch them... It is now almost forty years back and the memories are still fresh. So I think your daughter can be thankful that she has such a thoughtful mother. Ice cream sounds good, maybe not too traumatic... In Switzerland traditionally you would treat blisters like that with rose honey. Here I might try gelee royal, which you should be able to get in a health food store. Or something that you normally use when babies are teething... I know it is very painful and I would try to apply something at least during the night. If you are against using something against blisters, I would give the gelee royal a try. The rose honey worked really well. We would wet some cotton like what you use to take off make-up, roll it into a small roll and soak it with the honey that you put in between the gums and the mouth. Good luck, A.

I caught that blisters in mouth/throat from my kids.
It is so painful!!!
Treat the pain with pills and cepocol lozanges.
Throat coat teas may help.
chips of ice to keep mouth moist
Dilute koolaid burned less than water. (don't use jucie)
Even ensure burns.
salt free crakers can melt in mouth.
I went 3 days without much that didn't make me suffer.
I now have much more sympaty for these kids...

M. R,

You need to make her body alkaline. She has to much acid in her body.

Alkaline water and barley will help.

When My daughter had HAnd Foot nd Mouth- our pediatritian suggested using a paste mix of Mylanta and Benadryl. There is also a Mylanta/benadryl/xylocaine mix but this requires a pharmasist for the xylocaine which is a topical prescription anastetic. We just did the Mylanta/Benadryl and it helped. Two part Mylanta to one part Benadryl. Good Luck and hope you little one feels better soon!
