Bleeding After C-section

I had our 2nd child two weeks ago via c-section. I had our first by c-section also, but that was over two years ago and I honestly can not remember how my body reacted then. I have been bleeding with about the same about of blood each day. Then two days ago I started cramping and having lower back pain like I do when I am having a period. I started cramping and having the lower back pain again last night and while sitting on couch, I filled a pad and also passed a few blood clots. I woke up this morning to another heavy blood flow with several small blood clots, and still having the lower back pain/period like cramping. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I am figuring this is normal, but would like to know if it has been like this for anyone else. If this continues, I will call my dr. But since it is the weekend, I thought I would go to the next best source! Thanks moms!

And a PS I am breastfeeding, but the pain I am feeling is more like period cramping/lower back pain not the contraction of the uterus you feel in the very beginning. I haven't had those pains in probably a week.

What can I do next?

I was exactly how you describe what you're going through for about 3 weeks and then bled for another 3 more but much lighter (some days only spotting). It was right after my 6 week post partum check up that I got back to "normal". What you're saying sounds normal to me...especially if the pain you're having is like cramping and not more severe. But, always trust your gut and if you think something is wrong or just not quite right, give the doc. a call, if for nothing else then just your peace of mind. Congrats on your new baby!

did not experience a whole lot of postpartum bleeding, because my Dr. "cleaned me out" really well. My first period was pretty crazy, though!! Very similar to yours. If your pains become more then period type of pains, I would call the Dr. Otherwise, it sounds like normal postpartum stuff to me!!

My 2nd c/s recovery was harder on me than my first. I had more pain, and also more bleeding. What you're describing sounds about like me after my 2nd c/s. But, if you're concerned definitely call your dr first thing in the morning (unless it gets worse then call immediately).

I would call the advice nurse, just to be sure. Some questions she may ask might include how many pads you are saturating within a given time period, the size of the clots, how long it has been occuring, if there is an unusual or foul smell associated with it, if anythign brings it on or stops it, if you are having dizziness or lightheaded ness, if you have any other symtomes, etc. Be prepared to answer those questions. Call now even if it turns out it is nothing, rather than not call and be sorry later.

D.,

After my second child and second c-section, I had more bleeding and cramping than I did with the first. It primarily was the result of me not taking care of myself like I should and trying to do too much too soon. Since you have a 2 year old running around as you try to recover this time, it is virtually impossible to take it as easy as you should unless you have great help.

I would call your doctor just in case there is more to it. Try to take it easy as best you can.

I bled alot and seemingly forever after my c section, i think it was 9 weeks or so, but when i questioned the Doc, he said to expect up to 100 days. Had no idea healing from c section was so painful and slow.

Its pretty normal, just your uterus trying to put itself back together again. You didnt say if you were breast feeding, but I know when you do you get really bad after pains upon the initial letdown of your milk each feeding.... it affects your uterus.
If the pain and bleeding becomes more frequent rather than less over the next few days, I'd call your advice nurse for some validation.
congrats on your 2nd.

I have had 3 c-sections and after all of them my bleeding only lasted for 4-5 weeks. It was on the lights side the whole time too. My doctor always said if you begin to bleed so much you have to change your pad every hour or less to come in to be seen. Also more bleeding can be a sign that you are pushing yourself doing too much and that you need to rest more.
