This may sound crazy , but I'm 6 weeks pregnant and i have this constant bitter taste in my mouth, I've been brushing flossing and using mouthwash but it only solves the problem for abou ten minutes, then it's that horrible bitter taste again. it actually sometimes maskes me want to throw which I sometimes do, and it keeps me from eating because it changes the taste of food. has anyone out there had any similar experiences during pregnancy. please let me know if you found any relief from this horrible problem.

What can I do next?

I had the same thing, the only thing I found that took the taste out of my mouth was dill pickles. Now, you may cringe at the thought of pickles but it helped me...i love pickles! When you cook, try adding a pinch of dill to your food, if you like the dill flavor...

I'm sorry to have to be the one that tells you this but I never found a way for it to go away, I chewed gum until I was about 6 months along....

Good Luck....

A bit about myself, I am the mother of 2, my son will be 3 in a few weeks and my daughter is 3 months.

when i was pregnant the taste was due to the prenatal vitamins..the dr said there was nothing they could do because you have to take the pills it will go away..so just bear with it for now...chew gum..mints...crackers..hope that will help.

Hi,
Oh, yes!! I had the same thing. It was a bitter and almost metallic taste for me. And like you, nobody seemed to know what I was talking about. My OB/GYN said that during pregnancy we have heightened senses of taste, smell, etc...I guess it is sort of a protective mechanism. So if something was just too bitter/metallic/chemical like tasting I would not eat it. I did have reduced appetite just like you and nothing tasted right. Water even tasted strange unless it was really cold. I became very picky and started to crave only really healthy things like salads and vegetables, so I guess it worked out good in the end. It finally went away after my son was born, but when I got pregnant with my next child it came back just like before. Hang in there. Just keep trying different foods and hopefully you'll find something that is tolerable. Good luck!

Another one of those wonderful things of pregnancy. The taste in my mouth drove me to drink lots of water with crushed ice (a strange but necessary craving) with lemon while I was pregnant. I guess worse things could happen!
