Biting While Nursing - Fort Lauderdale,FL

my little guy is the proud owner of 2 new teeth, which he sometimes practices with while nursing...ouch! does anyone have any tips on how to stop him from biting my boobs? pleeease!

yes, smooshing then into your breast goes against your natural instincts and yes it did work for me & my 2 boys. also I did say: NO BITING! very strongly and fully drawn out and enunciated with a very serious look on my face & then I'd put baby down and walk away. it's called 'social isolation' it's not a time-out- you're just letting them know that it's not 'socially acceptable' LOL!

hylands teething tablets work wonders as does a drop of benedryl on the gums...

I don't know from experience because my daughter is only 2 months old, but when I've asked other moms they say you should push their face into your boob. If you try to pull them off (which is your natural reaction) while they are latched you will end up hurting yourself more. Supposedly, if you push their face into your boob they will release because they can't breathe. I've also heard that you should maybe put them down for a minute (kind of like time-out) so they learn that it's not acceptable. Some people think if you say ow! or ouch! or no! that the baby could interpret that as funny or positive reinforcement and continue. So they recommend nonverbal cues like putting them down. Good luck and I'm curious to know if this actually works...
