My son turns 13 at the end of February and we wanted to do something for him and a couple of friends to celebrate. He hasn't had a party the last 2 years. I am stumped for ideas. It's too cold for Six Flags, or the Speedzone. We have already done Medieval Times. I know he would like to shoot a gun. Don't have a clue where one would go for that. He loves to play the war games on his PS3. He also doesn't want to do Great Wolf Lodge either. Help! Please can anyone give me a suggestion?

What can I do next?

I too would suggest paintball or maybe even rock climbing. Or maybe laser tag could be fun? Or a place like Dave and Busters or Main Event with arcade games, bowling, laser tag, etc. I also saw this place on Groupon a few weeks ago that also has a bunch of different activities that seem right up a young teenager's alley: http://www.dfwap.com/DFWAP/

Hope it helps!

When my son hit about 12 big parties and theme parties became a thing of the of the past. For the past several years he invites about 3 to 4 boys over and we do pizza and cake then go to the theater for a movie then back to the house were they play PS3, Nerf gun wars, whatever they want. Sometimes we have some of the boys sleep over, sometimes not. :)

Talk to your son and see what he wants and have a happy celebration.

How about Paintball? My son went to a paintball party behind The Hilton in Grapevine (kind of in that area anyway). A big hit w/him and his war game lovin' friends.

Paintball or laser tag are lots of fun . . . I think laser tag requires less "gear." Do some research and find out your options, the cost, how many kids you could afford, etc and then ask your son what/which he'd prefer. He may just want to go to a place like Main Event or Dave and Busters and hang out.

If your son wants to shoot a real gun, check with the NRA website for instructors and see if you can set up a rifle class for the day or something. A local gun range might also help you out with that. However, because of the nature of the activity, it requires a lot of supervision. Make sure if you do an activity like that, the invitation says that parents need to stay or something.

You can go to NRA.org, click on Explore the NRA, and search for activities by location or whatever.

You could also contact someone at the Dallas Safari Club to get their suggestions. Good luck, and have fun (safe, careful fun, lol)!

If he likes playing video gaming PS3 contact Games 2U at g2u.com. It is a game bus in which you play video games inside or outside the bus. They will come your residence or park depending on the activities you choose. It was a great experience and a surprise to all involved. Enjoy! Good Luck!

My daughter is a real tomboy, and comes up with some very unique ideas... Last year we did a "Capture the Flag" game in a wooded area, followed by a trip to IHOP. This year (next weekend), we've rented 2 rustic cabins ($35 ea/no bathrooms) for the night at Cooper Lake... One for the girls, one for the boys:) There will be plenty of time for hanging out, smores, etc, plus we've made a couple of scavenger hunts they can do.

If you go with the game truck idea, there's g2u.com and http://www.gametruckparty.com/ so you can compare prices. You can find a $30 coupon to Game Truck here: http://www.carrolltonkidsguide.com/Birthday_Parties.php
