Birthing Centers

Does anyone know of a birthing center in the area or an alternative to having a baby other than a hospital?

What can I do next?

A couple people have already mentioned Sage Femme, and I just thought I would add my agreement that it's a really neat place! I haven't actually been a patient there, but I'm a medical student and I've talked to the director and gone on a tour, and it's definitely a high quality place that provides wonderful, personal care! Cathy Gordon is the director and one of the midwives, and she does lots of medical missions and has delivered babies all over the world.

Hi T.-
I birthed one of my daughters at Women's Health Pavilion that was in Overland Park but unfortunately closed four years ago. The midwife who ran it was Sheila Roth, CNM who is wonderful! With the birth of my son last year I chose to use Sheila again although she is not doing home births or birth center births anymore. She works out of Research Medical Center providing nurse midwifery care. They specialize in natural birth and water birth. I trust her implicitly as she has been birthing babies for like 30 years. With the birth of my daughter at the birth center she ended up being surprise breech and it was the smoothest birth possible. She was born in the water naturally and Sheila knew exactly what to do. I did have a doula and highly recommend it also. Anyway--you might consider Sheila even though it would be a hosptial birth. You get more time in your prenatal visits and you have the freedom to choose how your birth will be and what prenatal tests you would like or not like. You would be able to move around the room freely and choose whichever position you like to birth in. By the way, I know two people who have birthed at Memorah and were not happy. If you are looking for a natural birth they are not the place--lots of interventions! Good luck!

You might contact Dr. Alyssa-Rae Zonarich, she's a Chiropractor who specializes in Pregnancy Care. She is fantastic and is offering a special right now for pregnant moms. My son and I both see her and love her. Her number is 913/402-7444, First Choice Chiropractic.

Hi ;-)

There is Sage Femme in KC: http://www.sagefemmekc.org/

I've heard there is a place in Olathe as well, but I'm not sure of the name. You could probably e-mail the KC Doulas group and find out (____@____.com).

If you'd like info on home birth, let me know.

Yours in health-
Dr. Alyssa

I don't but I recommend Menorah Medical Center. They were awesome with the birth of my son!
