Birthday Party Menu Ideas!!!

My daughter will be having her 5th birthday next month. I'm having her party at an indoor play area, and need to plan kind of a picnic style menu for adults and kids. I can't have anything warm or anything that needs to be heated. Does anyone have any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Hi N.!
One thing that I have done in the past is make different kind of sandwiches like PB & J, Some cheese, Some cheese with meats and then I cut them out with different cookie cutters for each kind of sandwich. (At my kids Easter party I do a flower for PB & J, a cross for the cheese, and an egg shape for the meats). Then buy the small bags of multiple kinds of chips and put it in a picnic basket, grapes or some kind of finger fruit and it's an easy, non messy meal!
Hope this helps

I second the subway idea I was thinking the same thing!

Subs, Chips, Cookies, Salads, Jellos, your set!

This is going to sound so crazy, but I was recently at a birthday party for a set of twins turning 4. Their mom had the best idea...she made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, cut them into squares and triangles and set them out. Even kids, such as my own two boys, who won't usually eat them, LOVED them! Adults were welcom to help themselves, of course, but she also provided simple stuff like grapes and strawberries, chips and salsa, and crakers and cheese, potato chips, carrots, anything not requiring much prep or clean-up! She instantly became my birthday party hero.

We recently held my daughter's 1st birthday party and kept it simple too. Chips, dip, carrots, simple fruit, and brats. Best ideas in the whole world! The simpler the better.

Good luck and enjoy your little precious beauty!

I had a similar thing for my son's 2nd. birthday. I made sandwiches--PB&J, nutella for the kids, and turkey/cold cut style with pesto for the adults. Then I used a huge star cookie-cutter to make them into birthday starts. They looked really festive. The only downside is there's little bit of food waste. I got pretty good at lumping stuff in the middle but not matter what you'll have bread discards. I also have a great pasta salad recipe, can be made with or without turkey or chilled roated chicken. Feel free to e-mail me if you're interested in that. Have fun!

How about a Subway 10 foot Sub. Those are great cause they're cut into small sections already, good for little ones. You pick it all up ready to go, Chips, Pops and cookies, napkins, etc. At an indoor play yard, I'm guessing that the kids aren't going to want to stop for long to eat...they'll eat a bite or 2 and run off and play. Subs are the sort of thing that can sit for a while without getting gross.

I just had a party for my kids in September and made them Peanutbutter and Jelly Crecent Rolls - you can find the recipe on pilsbury's website along with other great ideas. The nice thing was I made them ahead of time and the kids and Suprisingly the parents loved them. Make more than you think you will need because they will be gone. Then just add chips and juiceboxes with bottled water and your set. Good luck!

My daughter recently took her children to a birthday party that was picnic style. They were served peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. She said it was great. So simple. The kids loved it and the adults were impressed with how simple it was and enjoyed the peanut butter sandwiches as well. I guess you should think simple. Have fun.

I have a really good cheese tortilini salad recipe that I got from my cousin....might be more for the adults.
It's got cheese tortilini, spinach, bacon, ranch dressing and a few other things in it. Let me know if you want the recipe.

Other than that. I'd if you have a sarah lee or a tastee store, pick up some bread, maybe dinner rolls or other type of buns from there a day or so ahead of time and just put out the fixings for sandwiches. (meat, cheese, mayo, mustard ect..) let everyone make their own sandwich. Then bring a pasta salad or two and maybe jello if you want. Most of it can be made ahead and it's all good cold.

That's what I did for our son's 2nd birthday. It worked real well.
