I have done personalized invites for years and the best place (offering and service) is at Paper Lion in McKinney. There are THOUSANDS to chose from and they are organized by category, i.e., girl bday, boy bday, holiday, tea, baptism, etc. They are just awesome. I live in NE Richardson (George Bush & Renner area) and make the drive. Its so worth it. There is also Paperie in Firewheel Town Center. They are good too but don't have the offering and selection. Paper Lion does all of my personal stationary for myself, my children and family. Again, so awesome! They are right off of 75 and Virginia Parkway. Good luck!

I just had my daughter's 1st birthday and I actually found an incredible online service that did a fantastic design:
http://www.funandsassydesigns.com/
They have so many to choose from and once I decided what I wanted I was able to work with the artist that designed it and changed the colors to fit what I wanted.
They are wonderful to work with and I was very happy. I did not have the time to go to a shop so this worked perfectly for my busy schedule.
Good luck!

At $4 a gallon, online is the way to go! :) I have also used vistaprint, and it is great!
Also try http://www.partycat.com/. They are out of Austin and make the online process very easy - you get to see a proof before they go final. I have done several shower invitations this way. I also did my daughter's one year invites and they turned out great!

I read about these web sites in a Consumer Reports mag called "ShopSmart;)," just the other day. CR rated them well on service, but didn't test their products. Still, it may be a good place to start.
