Birthday Party Ideas for a 6 Year Old Girl?

There is every theme imaginable outlined on that website by parents who have given the parties. They include crafts, games, invitations foods etc. I've gotten some really good ideas there including a Survivor Party and an Amazing Race party., Have fun!

Pick a theme according to what she's into. I know HSM is huge right now and the party stores have decorations and party favors. You could have a movie premiere - although I know everyone has seen it). Watch the movies , do a trivia game, karaoke, have them dress up etc.

Perhaps you could tailor a fun party around a favorite movie. My SIL just hosted a "Polar Express" party for all of our nieces and nephews, ages 2 to 11. That was her present to them. She bought pjs for all of them to get into before the movie started. At appropriate times throughout the movie she passed out tickets, punched tickets, passed out hot chocolate and passed out bells. The kids loved it.

Craft parties and treasure hunts are also fun. Check out the Oriental Trading website for fun decorations, accessories and treats.

How about "movie night" theme. Let them wear PJ's (not sleep over) bring pillows and rent a popular movie. Make popcorn and turn out the light to make you living room like a theater. Order pizza afterwards and send them on their way!

Hello! I had the same problem and I decide to have a pool party. We had it at a hotel. We were able to just rent the pool but some other people I heard rent a room and have a sleepover/ pool party ... depends what you want to do. This was nice change for the kids because of the cold weather. Everyone had a blast!

My daughter was 5 and she wanted to go to the ISC/ Funplex but prices are getting outrageous. So I suggested a tea party for her close friends and then a sleep over. My next door neighbor actually works for a company that does tea parties for little girls if interested I will get you the name and number. Kate

HI. When my 2nd daughter turned 6, we did a princess party. She chose a few friends. We addressed the invitations to the friend and her prince (meaning her dad or grandpa,etc). The girls and their dads came dressed up. We did a create your tiara craft. We had the girls take off their shoes and hid one in various places the dads had to then go find the shoes and decide which one belonged to his daughter and then place it on her foot. M., I know you got a ton of ideas, but not sure I saw this as a response. My kids are 8 and 5. When my daughter turned 6 I decided that instead of doing a party, I would let her choose her birthday activity. The choices...she could have a party or go on a family trip. She chose family trip. We took her to Orlando's Discovery Cove where she swam with dolphins!! (you have to be 6 and up) She's never forgotten it. When she turned 7, she skipped the party again and we went to Universal Studios. It's so much fun for the entire family, my son loves it too, wonderful memories and no guilt about not having a birthday party. Funny, when my son turned 5 he chose the party, and then said he'd pick a trip next time after he saw how much fun his sister's trip was. Yes, we lived in Florida at the time, so that made it easier, but pick someplace close to home. Now we're doing a resort in the Poconos with INDOOR pool for a weekend when my son turns 6! Even I'M excited!

Princess parties are HUGE right now. You could do a craft like the girls making their own tiara's... Michael's has foam ones that you can glue items to, super easy.
You could make sashes for the girls... buy some wide pink ribbon and use glue and glitter to write the girls names on them. When they arrive at the party they receive their sash and become "Princess _______" Serve finger foods and cupcakes (you can buy princess theme anything now-a-days, just try the local craft store!)

hi M....as a kindergarten teacher of 36 yrs! i can sdvise a "project"...craft. keep it simple!! that way everyone will feel successful regardless of skill. you might use snack food as a craft that they could then eat or...something that they take home as the "favor" or...we decorated plain white pillow cases w/ permanent markers that turned out beautiful!! (that we then donated to CHOP) if you are in the "service" mode. i could go on but perhaps this will help. M. teacher at friends central school

my suggestion, also having cold weather babies, is, perhaps an indoor pool or an indoor ice skating rink. kids would enjoy either, and it wipes them out!

My daughter turned 5 in Dec. She had a skating party, they did all the work and the kids had a blast. There's also Monster Golf, they loved that at my sons party,too. Also and indoor swimming party.

How about an arts n crafts type of party where they make something? You could have a baking party where you let them all cook. Game party where they play various games or game stations depending on how many kids you're having. You could do board games at a table or even set up little games throughout the house (the old fashioned ones that are fun, but different for the kids). Another idea--how about renting a kareoke machine and have a kareoke (I can't spell!) party. I'd set out snacks and pizza bites. If you want to go out and have a real fun time at a reasonable price, I really suggest Vince's. I had my daughter's there this year, and it was a really fun time. We were surprised at how much fun all the kids had in the ball pit. We thought that would have been the last thing they wanted to do, but they spent the most time in there having so much fun!

I just had a party at the Atlantic city aquarium for my daughter. It was great! They offer a great party package and the kids will have a blast. They even get to feed the sharks :)

I remember having two parites sometimes. An adult/family party and a kid party, usually her close friends about 10 or less. My mom would do games and prizes for about 30 to 45 minutes, then presents then cake and ice cream. Everyone would stay for a little longer then leave. Make it only an hour to an hour and half. We would play simon says, drop a penny from your nose into a cup, put a cotton ball on a spoon and make them walk from one end of the room to the other. very simple entertaining games. Get a prize for each game and who wins get a prize but do try to make sure everyone gets one. And I remember helping with the party favor bags. The dollar store and Party City have plenty of toys that are cheap and great prizes. My daughter is 3, soon to be 4 in Feb, and I can't wait till she can have a kid party. Hope I helped a little. Absolutely not, you want it to be all about the kids. Adults have their own parties. Make sure there are lots of games to keep them busy. They have alot of party favors you can buy, and party games. You need a piniata, pin the tail on the donkey, a good coloring game, or some coloring books is great, party bags for them to each take home, musical chairs is a good one, some kittie music to play for the party. If they get bored, you can always have outdoor time too. The party will be over before you know it. 2 hours is a good amount of time to give for a kids party. After that they get tired out and cranky. Pizza is also good to have, but you should either have it at dinner or lunch and let the parents know you are feeding them, or have it at a different time(not noon or 5) and let them know you are only giving them cake. I always hated it when I didn't know if i should feed my son or not. I would feed him, and then they would have food, or visa versa. Have fun. Enjoy. They are only young once.

Ok I have done this with a few Girl scout troops and with some students when I was teaching and it was tons of fun for both the parents and kids.

I have all the kids bring a bag of their most outragious clothes so that the costume designer has something to work with. bring lots of flashlights for the lighting person and a cd player for sound.

going to the park (one girl played a squirl and threw nuts, it was very funny)
when i grow up
movie stars(they were histerical in their portryal of how movie stars act)

the girls will take a couple of hours to write and reherse,plenty of time for parents to chat, then the performance.

We did food during rehersal and writing (munchie bar)and we had cake afterwards, so I'm sure all you would have to add is presents and you would be good to go.

My step-daughter LOVES chocolate (as most kids do, right?). So for her birthday 2 years ago I did a chocolate party. The main attraction was a big chocolate fountain that I had rented. It kept the kids busy for a long time. I put out pretzels, fresh fruit and marshmallows to dip in the fountain. We made everything else “chocolate” by doing everything in dark brown---- lunch was sandwiches with pumpernickel bread, I got brown plates, napkins, pitchers for the drinks, balloons, etc. For favors we filled small boxes with Hershey kisses and wrapped them in brown tissue paper. I was also able to find a chocolate-brown invitation at Traylorpapers.com.

Last year, we had her birthday at Michael’s arts & craft store. They throw great birthdays and are very reasonably priced (I’d venture to even say “inexpensive”). The birthday girl can pick a craft for everyone to do and you can have a theme around the craft. My step-daughter wanted a pirate birthday, so they painted and decorated little treasure chests. Michael’s let me come early to decorate the birthday room (the room on the side that they use for art classes) and the woman who ran the birthday party was very friendly and good with kids. Michael’s provides invitations, but we made our own “pirate invites”--- I printed out all of the party info on a regular piece of computer paper, we used lots of words like “shiver me timbers”. Then we rolled them up really tightly and tied them with a red ribbon. Then we put them into washed, empty Dasiani bottles, then filled the bottles about halfway with sand and popped some tiny shells on the top of the sand. Then we just put a label right on the bottle and the post office mailed the bottle as-is, no box needed.

Both parties were a huge hit and I’d recommend either one! Let me know if you want any more info on them.

We did a party in November with The Playful Chef (www.theplayfulchef.com) and she was awesome! She brought everything (including favors for the guests, a gift for my daughter, and a gift for me!) The kids made their own pizzas, danced, did a craft project and decorated cupcakes. Chef Alisa managed the whole party (my husband and I had our own pizza and wandered in from time to time...) cleaned up everything...the kids LOVED it.

Some salons hold parties for girls. Also Libby Lu stores , and Justice have parties. If she is into playing dress up it's a lot of fun.

We did a makeover party for my 6 yo had a friend help with nails and hair..was a success last year we rented a room at the marriot in collegeville and they could swim..not to expensive 119.00 a night then could have a family sleep over.

6 is a good age to do a tea party theme. Supply boas , hats, jewelry, etc. & have an "elegant" tea party.

Hi! I was actually an assistant director at a local daycare facility and some of the moms had different ideas. I have heard of "tea parties" where you have someone come in and they provide everything while the parents chit chat. I have also worked with college girls who get hired by parents to host a themed birthday party like do nails and hair and play different games, some of these girls would not charge a lot or call someone from one of the beauty schools in the area and sometimes they will come to your home to do the girls hair and nails....Or you could have a baking party where the girls can help you bake.... What about a themed party with a craft project. Like a princess tea party and then they can make a princess themed craft. On the disney website they may have some "game" ideas. Afriend of mine did this. The girls dressed up like the disney characters, they made photo frames, which she took their pictures and had them put it in the frame. For the food she did little tea sandwiches and tea party themed things. they also decorated cupcakes instead of having cake. Have fun. www.livegreeneasy.com

First thing is no adults. Let them drop kids off for a couple of hours. The children are old enough to do some kind of craft project. keep the party small and let the kids make string jewelry or a clay knick knack or some other low cost craft object. My grandaughters party was a princess party where they had cardboard tiaras and glittered them and made wands with glitter on them. The parents will enjoy time off and you do not have to entertain adults at a child's party. You can have cake and ice cream and enjoy the children.
