Birthday Party Games

Does anyone know of any good brithday party games that can be played indoors, say in a movie theatre party room? My 7yr old is having a movie party, we get the room 1hr before the movie starts but I don't want the kids just sitting around looking at one another for an hour. I know we have to sing Happy birthday and all that good stuff but that should only take about 15 minutes if not less.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

The party went GREAT!!! We only had 1 hour and it went by really quickly. We played "pass the Parcel" it's like musical chairs only with a gift wrapped many times. The person holding the gift when the music stops unwraps one layer the person to unwrap the final layer wins the prize. We also played a list game, "For my birthday dinner I want...." Each person goes around and adds something to the list until someone can't remember the whole list. It was great fun, the kids came up with some funny things! Afterwards we went to watch the BEE MOVIE, btw it was a great movie! My daughter was very happy and that's what really matters. Thanks for all the great ideas, I'm sure the kids wished we could have played them all.

Hello! My kids just had Autumn Adventures at school last week and they had games in their gym before the big show. I hope some of these ideas are useable for your party......1) straws for each child, a cup or bowl of some sort (even a dixie cup would work) and pumpkin seeds. The kids put the seeds around the cup and race to "suck" up the seed onto the bottom of the straw and lift the seed into the cup. The first ones get a prize. 2) Also using a straw and pumpkin seed the kids put the seed on the floor and then blow thru the straw at their pumpkin seed and race to the finish line on the floor. The school had place rolled out drawing paper on the floor and drew race track lines for the seed for guide lines of keeping the seed in the track. 3) get foam sheets and make either a picture frame or possibly cut out tropies/awards for the kids to decorate with small foam shapes with the peel back sticky so there would be no use for glue. You could also set up a photo station where kids could pose for a picture with the birthday child ...something to give out in the thank you cards as a rememberance of the party. You could also bring a bean bag toss.....just cut holes in a big piece of cardboard and paint in to resemble something to go with the movie theme. Kids can take turns throwing the bean bags in the holes. Or if you want to take a creative approach with the kids, buy solid black construction paper and white and colored chalk and let the kids draw pictures on the black paper. To keep the pictures from smearing and smudging, spray aerosol hair spray onto the black paper once drew on and allow it to dry and then the picture with remain in tact. You could also have all of the kids sign one together for the birthday child to have. Try the internet for ideas too, just type in birthday theme ideas and see where it leads you. Good luck and have fun! ~T.

Why don't you ask him if there are any games they like to play at school or maybe you can make up a game that has something to do with the movie. Take the title and see how many words they can come up with the letters in the title or something like that. Sorry i'm not too much help. I really do not think you have to worry about them being bored for an hour....they are 7 year old boys....they'll come up with something.

Hi J., You could do a "pull string" type pinata. With that type of pinata no one swings at it the kids just pull a string and when the right one is pulled the goodies fall out. All you need is a tall adult with a strong arm to hold it up and you don't even need to hang it.
You could play a "hot potato" type game, since it's a movie party maybe get a package of movie candy as the prize, have the kids start in a circle, start the music (bring a portable boom box) and the kids pass the item around until the music stops and then whoever has it is "out" and so on until you have a winner.
You could make your own pin the tail on the donkey type game. Make a cut out of whatever your theme is and blindfold the kids and have the stick on the missing part (I have girls so we usually do the pin the crown on the princess type game).
Another option would be to do a "movie trivia" game, make a list of questions about popular kids movies and have the kids answer and whoever gets the most right wins.
One thing I would recommend is a small prize (suckers or something)for all kids who play not just the winner.
If you have any other questions I would be happy to help. I have a business throwing little girls birthday parties.

My mom has brought back some of the games they had at our earlier bday parties for the grandkids and they seem to be a hit. Like...dropping the clothespins in a glass jar. Maybe you could blow up a picture of your daughter and get some popcorn bags and play pin the bag in her hand (like pin the tail on the donkey with a twist)...we've done this before with a blown up pic of a race car and put my nephew's pic in it...makes it a little funner w/their pic. Also, since they are 7, twist and turn them around...it is really funny where all the bags will end up. Maybe blow up some balloons with pieces of paper in them and have different #'s on them with prizes and have everyone grab a balloon and pop to see if they get a prize...the balloons are not always easy to pop, that might take up a little time...stomping on them, sitting on them, squeezing them. Good luck with the party!!

Hey ,J. well first of all have all the kids take off there shoes and pile them up at the other end of the room make sure they are well mixed. now have a starting line a few feet from the shoes depends on how much room you have . they all form a line and the object of the game is who ever can get to the pile and find there shoes and put them on and tie them up the fastest and get back to the starting point. wins, but of course you would have to have a prize like a barbie or jewlery ect.Hears one take a potatoe place it on the chair.now have each girl sit on the patato and try to pick it up,now at the other end have a bucket were they would have to drop the patatoe in. who ever get the patatoe in the bucket wins although you may have to have a few prizes.it a very hard game but lots of laughs.Oh yes try a pinyata hope i spelled that right . i have bad spelling so be kind. I did a game a few years back where i got a small prize for each child (i bought those ice cream cones where the foam ice cream part shoots off with a trigger), wrapped each one in a different type of wrapping paper. you hide them around the room. then let the kids pick out a scrap of the paper and try to find their matching one.
you can put in different prizes; boy/girl prizes for instance - just be sure you keep track before wrapping. or keep them the same.

My son had his 7th party at a Pizza Hut, which didn't have anything for the kids to do really, so I brought in a big long piece of freezer paper (any paper really) and a bunch of crayons, and had the kids color whatever they wanted on it, and it's now a poster for my son's room. I had thought of getting a bingo type game for them, but opted out as they would be wanting the pizza quickly! You could probably make your own with a movie theme on the computer. Good luck!

Hi J.,

I know of a game that I never seen ehre before, I am from Argentina originally and we play a game that is called "the package game" Or "the gift game" and it goes like this:
First you have to purchase a gift (favors or any kind of goodie that kids like) I used to get a slinky or bubbles, or anything that is not expensive but you know that the kids will love to get.
Rap that gift in lots of papers, use different and fun papers, like one in tissue, other in newspaper, other in bright paper, other in beautiful gift giving paper, and again tissue and magazine paper and so on until you rapped that gift in about 15 or 20 papers, you can put a bow in the first one to know wich one gets the gift.
Make the kids sit in a circle, play music that they can hear properly and give them the gift and tell them that they have to take one paper when the music stops and pass it again to the next kid. Every time the music stops, they will take off one paper until the last one gets to open the present and keeps it.
You can do 3 or more of this games since when they get it, they want more! They all want to keep a gift! You will play the music making sure that the same child doesn't get a gift twice or you can ask them that if they get a gift again it will belong to the next in line.
You can ad or change rules but it is a lot of fun.
Make sure to have a paper basket or bag in the middle of the circle and ask them to toss the papers in there or they will toss it everywhere! Been there!:)
Have fun!
