Birthday Party for One Year Old

My son's first birthday party will be in early October. I wanted to possibly hire someone to do a puppet show or something fun for the kids that isn't necessarily Barney or a clown & doesn't cost a truckload of money either. Does anyone have any ideas or references for such a thing?

What can I do next?

Is this party really for your son or yourself? He won't remember it, and if you're concerned about the money, you should do something that celebrates you and your family getting through the first year!! Save your money for when he'll actually remember it!

I agree w/ Kathy W. Your 1 yr old won't remember but make it special & inexpensive just decorate (NO BALLOONS IN REACH)chokey item. Anyone attending just kindly ask for Savings bonds
and items from $Store eg. rubber ducky, babie cookies, books that squeak and for a baby that age and a great Big present is a Baby Jumper you attach over the door and they can bounce up and down. Get your own puppets (socks) decorate with craft store items and just try to keep it simple, Sing Happy B'Day w/ them. I had Barney at my 1st daughter's party and she could have cared less but her little 3-4 yr old friends loved it.Up to You But TOO EXPENSIVE. I wish I would have gotten her savings bonds instead. I know it's quite a land mark but after your 2nd baby (mine 3 now) you'll understand.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LITTLE BOY!:)

there are a bunch of websites for this, but if its only for kids his age, bubbles and toys usually do the trick. - and food for adults that they can eat with one hand while watching kids. remmeber that most kids this age will be either post nap or pre nap or missing nap, so the less craziness the better!-
since it is mostly for adults to enjoy just make the room babyproof and the parents will love watching the kids interact with little stress.

Do you have a reliable teenaged babysitter for your son yet? My son will be 4 this month and I am having his babysitter come to the party to play with the kids. The parents are still staying, so I don't have a houseful of pre-schoolers on my hands, but my son's babysitter is planning to run the games and entertainment. It was hard for me to start having a babysitter come at first (especially since my daughter is only 9 months old). But we started with just having her come when I was still home, or only going out for less than an hour. It has been wonderful! Plus, she charges much less than the dope in a dinosaur costume!

The Philadelphia Zoo brings a couple small animals to your house that the kids can pet and learn about. I don't know the details but you can go to their website and get some more info.
