Birthday Party for 4 Yr Old Girl with Broken Arm in McKinney
On the very day I called to rent a water slide for my daughter's 4th birthday party, she fell and broke her arm. Now, I'm at a loss about her party - no water, no jumping, no sliding, no swings, no running, ect. Any dress-up clothes would have to fit over her cast. Her birthday party is Sept. 13th. Does anyone have any ideas for a discouraged little 4 year old girl with a broken arm? We're in McKinney.

If you want to do an art type of party someplace other than at home- Joy of Pottery in McKinney is pretty neat.
Or what about Build a Bear? It rained for my DD's party last year so we had to cancel the bounce house last minute. Instead of going to build a bear, we got the bear kits from Michaels and did it at home. Each kit came with 2 bears and clothes. It was so much fun!!

C., I love all the party ideas below but just a note. My now 3 year old little girl broke her wrist 4 weeks before her 2nd birthday party. She had a cast and a sling on her entire arm. She went to another little girls birthday party that had water "sports" and she participated in everything. We just got one of those plastic air tight arm wraps for casts to keep the water out. She was fine and litterally did everything all of the other kids did. It's amazing how quickly they adapt to stuff like this. My daughter didn't want her cast off the day they had to remove it. It actually became a part of her and she didn't mind it at all. Good Luck!!!

I did not read all the request so I am not sure if anyone has ever recommended this to you. I also do not know the entire situation so please forgive me. As far as the water, they now make waterproof casts so in the future talk to your ortho about this. I know that team orthodics in McKinney do this and Apral is wonderful. Another great place is piper pizza in McKinney. They have a lot of video games for the kids to play. Depending on your budget Libby Lu or build a bear is also a great idea. they do their makup, hair and nails at Libby Lu. Or to cut costs you could do it yourself at your house. If it is a coed party build a bear is better. And yes boys like that stuff too. I had a friend that did a carnival style luau. She had different booths like face painting, balloon animals, a craft table, a pool with rubber ducks and you get a prize. You could do something like this and get cotton candy, snow cones (rival makes a great snowcone maker, but if you have a magic bullet it can chop ice too) Then she has lots to choose from. My friend ordered all her stuff from oriental trading company, but since you do not have a lot of time I am not sure you can order from them. Good luck.

I think it would be fun to hire one of those princess party hosts to come to your house and host a dress up tea party for the girls
OR
have a SPA party and hire a manacurist to come do the girls nail and toes :o)
I make cute spa party favors for all ages...
Give me a call if you need favors

Hello C.,
I'm not sure if you are still planning a party, but if you plan to be in the Plano area anytime soon, I can meet you and paint the birthday girls face. I hate that she has to miss out on the fun of her birthday, my little one will be five this Thursday. I am a professional face painter and would love to brighten her day! If you would like to see my work visit PaintedStyle.com
Just give me at least 24 hour notice and we can meet at a McDonald's or something.
Sincerely,
Jen Sewell

I wonder if the doctor or nurse practitioner can recommend some ideas. I'd like to think they run into this a lot and may be of some help. Maybe you could have a mini-carnival? Games, face painting, prizes, stuff you don't need to be super active to do? Also google some of the women's magazines - womens day, parenting, etc. to see if they have birthday party ideas - I'm sure there's something in there that doesn't require TONS of planning. Good luck and so sorry for your little girl.

It would be a bit of a drive, but Slappy's Playhouse in the Galleria is really a fun location for the kids & there is enough "adult" in the plays to make them entertaining for the "big kids" too. If that's too far, check for local children's theater events.

This may be a thought...I have boys, so not sure what age is best...BUT, I have a friend who does these parties and loves it. I know they come to your house, so that could be an option. Not sure at all what pricing is, but it might be worth checking out!
Maybe they could even put a "cast" on an animal for her!!!
Good luck.
