The Exploritorium on Oakton in Skokie has water play, a dress up area, climbers, an art area, tricycles, etc. The Chandler-Newburger Center in Evanston has a gym which can be equipped for two-year-olds with climbers, toys, etc., and it has a party room. I think it's cheaper than the Exploritorium, but they're both worth checking out.

My daughter just turned 2 and we had her party outside at the local park district in Chicago Ridge. You can get a permit (with just a cleaning depostit. There's no rental fee). We cooked some food out there and played some games and the playground was right next to us. All the kids had a great time.

I've had many Chuck E Cheese parties too, and I highly recommend that. It's one of the most reasonably priced places to have a birthday party. And the great thing is barely any planning or work on your part. I've always brought my own cake and did my own goody bags, but you could even have them do that for you if you want to pay for it. Also, they used to give you extra tokens for booking online.

Check out my website, www.kidwinks.com. We list over 100 birthday party places in the Chicagoland area in the Services section. Here's the link to the exact url: http://www.kidwinks.com/ForKids/KidsParty/.

If you become a member of kidwinks, which is free, you can sort these 100+ results in order of distance from your house.

Kidwinks.com is a resource for parents in the Chicago area looking for kid-friendly events, activities, restaurants, shops and services (like birthday party places!). In the restaurants section, you'll find our Kids Eat Free Calendar, where you can click on a day and get a list of restaurants offering kids' dining deals (like "kids eat free") for that day. Check it out!

Hope this helps,

J.

Pirate's Cove in Elk Grove Village is perfect. I think they close at the end of August though. Check out their website: http://www.elkgroveparks.org/piratesCove.asp
