Birthday Gift Ideas for a 4 Year Old Girl?
Hi Moms, what are 4 years old playing with these days? My daughter is little so I need some advice on what to buy a 4 year old girl for her birthday that she will like - thanks!

i think that really depends on what kinds of things the girl's parents have exposed her to and appreciate.
i would personally prefer more interactive toys, like games (hi ho cherrio, memory, kiddie dominos, etc.), puzzles, or pretend play stuff. or a good book. i like to buy friends' kids reference books, like picture atlases, something with a lot of variety that people normally wouldn't think to get their kid. i think about the interest of the parents in picking those books. some toys i have found really interesting lately are things for outside: play gardening tools, beach stuff, the like.
another option is something more consumable...like tickets to some kiddie show, or a prepaid trip to the children's museum in SJ. i know "event gifts" are more popular these days, and people think more about having less stuff.

Many little girls love princesses and mermaids. I have a four-year-old daughter and she plays a mermaid at each bathtime!
By daughter prefers books to other types of toys so books are always a good bet with her. I recently bought her a fabulous book called The Mermaid's Treasure. It's a big book filled with mermaid lore. There is a blue jewel on the front cover and lots of interesting things inside to look at. I found it at Borders.
Other options are dress-up clothes. You can NEVER have too many of those, especially when friends come over for a playdate. There is always a battle over the fanciest dress, so it's great to have more then one!!
Good luck!

Depends how girly she is. If she's pretty girly, you have LOTS of good options - get her a few of those adorable hair bows, or dress-up clothes, or princess ANYTHING. If she is more of a tomboy, how about some of those Polly Pocket cars? My little tomboy about-to-be-4 year old LOVES those. Alternately, every child that age loves coloring books, crayons, markers (washable!), and play-doh. Or, buy her a few Dr. Seuss books.
