Birthday Gift for Nanny?
Hello,
Our nanny turned 19 today (she just told me this morning!). She is going to London for a study-abroad for five months in September so I would like to get her a gift that might help her out or that she will enjoy over there. A little about her: sophmore in college, Christian, athletic, cute girl. Any suggestions? I want to spend around $30 as was thinking about a Macy's gift card, but would like to personalize it a little more if I can.
So What Happened?™
Thank you everyone for the great ideas. I bought her a Macy's gift card, a nice journal and my kids, with my help- they are little- made her a birthday card. I appreciate the great ideas!

How about a bag she can use on her travels.

How about the Macys gift card but have your kids make the card to personalize it? I am sure being 19, getting a Macys card would be very much appreciated. Good luck!

If she has a laptop that she's bringing with her (which she should) maybe a camera (not sure the actual name of it) but it's a small camera that hooks to your computer then she get a skype account (for free) and talk to her friends and family back home.
They are only $30 at like Best Buy.
My neice is over in France studying abroad right now and it's awesome to have, plus it helps them from being so homesick.

What about getting her a gift card / certificate for a manicure and or pedicure. It's just a thought. Or a gift card to one of her favorite stores.

Not sure if this would fit your nanny or not but the young christian girls that are in my small group love to journal. You could buy her a beautiful leather bound journal at a Christian bookstore, Barnes & Noble or Borders for less than $30. Then with what is left over in the budget you could throw in a fancy pen or a package of colored gel pens if she is the creative type. She may want to just journal her time abroad in a journal just for that purpose and it would be great to have all her experiences written down to look back on later in life. Just a suggestion. Good luck and I will pray for her safe travel. I am a 38 yo Christian SAHM with two amazing daughters, 2 & 4, and a great husband/dad!

Macy's is nice but $30 is not going to get you much, maybe one piece of clothing. How about a gift card to the Old Navy... $30 can go a lot further at Old Navy then at Macys.
Or just get her one of those mall gift certifactes (I believe you can pick them up at the info desk in the mall where you get strollers/carts). That way she can pick whatever store she wants.
I am sure she will apperciate whatever giftcard just thought I would give other idea.
With personalizing I love the idea the other moms suggested... have the kid(s) make cards for her. Since she spend most of her time with them it would mean the world to her.
Also one of the other moms said something about a camera for the computer... good idea, it is a web cam. If she has a newer laptop a lot of them already come with them built in so make sure you have a gift reciept so she can take it back if need be.

There are a lot of options... one that I like that I don't think has been suggested is a travel journal. A journal for her to write down her thoughts of the sites she sees and places to put mementos from the trip. It's almost like a miniature scrapbook, but the main purpose is to journal. Also, because she is going over seas, she will be extremely limited on space to take stuff... so the giftcard (for where ever) is a good idea as well... that way she can get what she needs for the trip.
