Birthday Cupcake- Cake ??

I did Lambs and Bears for my daughters party. She loves "Ace of Cakes."

Anyway, the lambs were made with vanilla frosting and cake, and white mini marshmellows all over. I cut larger mashmallows in half for the ears. The bears were made with chocolate frosting and cake. I took those chocolate rounds that you use for those melted chocolate molds. I stuck them into the cupcake for ears. M&M's for eyes and black gel tube for eveything else, like dots for the sheep's eyes and bear's mouth.

They were really cute and my daughter was happy.

If you want to make it yourself -- I have seen recipes where you make the cupcakes, while warm, you line them in a cardboard box top / glass pan, etc (anything to keep them contained), then ice all the cupcakes as if it were a cake, and do your design on top. Could be fun! Good luck and happy birthday to your daughter!

This won't help for this weekend but I got a catalog yesterday from Brylane Home that had a cake mold for a HUGE cupcake cake - really cute - like a full sized cake that looks like a big cupcake.

I know that's not what you're going for but wanted to throw it out there.

I think if you were to talk to a local bakery they'd be able to make one for you pretty easily. The small family owned ones are best!

Target does cakes like this. My cousin had a Guitar made from cupcakes and Target did it. Check into them; otherwise, I or anyone in my family has not done this.

Sur la Table had a cupcake cake mold in their catalog and may carry it in their stores.

For a mermaid, maybe check Wilton online - they're located in Itasca and maybe have a store on site?

I've seen some cute cupcake cakes at the Super Target. Not sure about Mermaids, but they had a really cute dinosaur.

A friend of mine had one made in the shape of a guitar and got it at Target and I think it was around $15. So, contact your local Super Target to see if they can do that! They're pretty inexpensive there and their cakes are so good!

Sam's Club does these too. Also not sure about mermaids, but they're very reasonably priced. We had Care Bears for my daughter's birthday.
