We are planning our son's birthday and I would like to have a nice cake for him, nothing too big, I think we'll have 20 kids or so.

What can I do next?

I've always used Child's Pastry Shop for my kids cakes. They do fantastic custom work! I just give them a copy of the invitation and they create a cake with the same colors/theme. www.childspastryshop.com

I love Costco cakes or Sam's Club. They're great for the price. Both are under $20 and taste really good. You get a lot of cake for your money. They have really cute designs to pick from and delicious flavors. You can also order ahead.

Hi J.,

Happy birthday to your son!

Here is the link to a banana birthday cake with cream cheese frosting that might work for your son's party:

If you are in need of something different, feel free to email me.

Best,

You could make cupcakes and depending on the age of the kids have them decorate the cupcakes themselves.

I like Safeway's cakes the best. They are very yummy and I always get parents coming up asking me where I got the cake. My son just had his birthday party and we got a 1/2 sheet cake from Safeway, which feeds up to 50 people and it was like $26.00. I am sure you could get a smaller cake.

I agree with the last poster. Costco or Sam's club is the best way to go. The cakes are I believe 15.99 and is such a good size that it would feed all the kids and the parents. I bought one from Costco for my sons 5 year old party and I had 24 kids plus the adults and there was enough for all the kids plus adults and had none left over. I would highly recommend going this route.

J.,
Do you have a theme? What are his interests? I have found different cake molds and make interesting cakes for my kids birthday's. I always ask them what they want and plan the day around their favorite foods. They have football molds at Wal-mart and Hobby Lobby. I have also seen tractor and sand castle molds. You can also find creative ideas in Family Circle.
If you don't want to make one you can pick up a custome cake at Wal- mart. (Not Bad taste) Or an ice cream cake is always a hit.

J., are you asking for a birthday cake? i do cakes, i have a myspace site, cakeindulgence, you can check out some of my work there. we recently moved here as well. i am actually going to a cake competition this weekend! i love to do cakes, and i normally don't charge alot. it just depends on what you want done. for this size of kids, i would suggest cupcakes. easier to eat, and you dont have to worry about 'knives' anywhere. I also have a 5yr old. either way, happy birthday to you little boy! you can email me if you want to do a play date! i love to get the kids together at the park!

We like Sams and Albertson's cakes best if you want to go fairly cheap. The also have beautiful cakes at SugarLips Cakery http://www.sugarlipscakery.com/about.html but they cost a bit more. Have a great party!

Hi J.,
I see you have a lot of responses for Costco and Sams and they do have great cakes. If you were looking for something in particular as far as a theme my sister makes cakes and can decorate almost anything that you can think of on it. If your interested you can call her. Her name is Krista ###-###-####.

Costco makes great cakes and they are only $16.99 for a cake that easily feeds 24. I have also had Sam's Club's cake and it was good too.

Hi J.,
I almost went into the cake business, but it was too time consuming with 2 little ones. I now purchase my cakes from costco, without any decoration, just a border. Very good cakes! People still think I made it! Decorate the cake with things your son likes. If you'd like me to do one for you, I can send pics of my cakes to you. (Buzz Lightyear, Wiggles, Train, CARS for example) I would charge about $30 (not including the cake, which is $16 at costco) Budget wise, go get some CARS or other disney figurines from the Disney Store (usually less than $10 for a set!)
Good Luck!
