ugh...i'm 37 today and I thought I was ok with it - but i'm kinda not. Feel real blue - it just seems SO OLD - and I certainly don't identify with this age - i feel more like a 20 something most days.

anyone else go through this???

What can I do next?

45 in November here. It's nice to have some peace and wisdom that goes with bigger numbers, wouldn't you say?

Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday! I'm 40, and have to say, so far the 40s are great!!!
My theory...
In my teens I thought I knew it all
In my twenties I (painfully) learned a knew very little
In my thirties I started to be real and accepting of who I am
In my forties I will celebrate me and enjoy life... you only get one

Hang in there - and you are right, you only are as old as you feel (so happy 20th!)

Don't worry, happy birthday!
You received a lot of great answers here (smart mamas).
Look at this way: another birthday is better than the alternative.
Now dust yourself off and treat yourself to something nice.
Whatever you want: a small inexpensive trinket, your favorite take-out food, buy yourself some flowers at the grocery store, call your friends and family, go for a walk (invigorating...helps clear the mind), write a list of at least 10 things you're thankful for.....this really puts things in perspective).
Happy birthday honey and don't worry....it's just a number. No one should count anymore after the ages of 16 (driver's license), 18 (independence, age to vote) 21 etc.
Have a great day!!!!! :)

Happy Birthday!

I turned 37 in May. We had dinner with family than came home to 2 cards and a cake. The whole thing was over in 5mins. Felt very jipped
Do something special for you today. Take an extended lunch. Splurge on a dessert. Eat dessert first. Live it up!!

Go volunteer to help some senior citizens. Bring a homebound senior a homecooked meal or run a couple errands or whatever ! Best way out of a pity-party--party of one, is to help someone else. Count your blessings, not complaints. Be grateful you feel like a 20 year old with the wisdom of a 37 year old. Be healthy in mind, body and spirit so that even when you are 65, you still feel like your 20 !

After I lost a friend to breast cancer at age 32, I have embraced every birthday since then. I am so happy I made it to my 33rd, 34th, and 35th birthdays!! Maybe that's a better way to look at it?

If it makes you feel better, I am 38!!!

I sympathize, just remember it could be a bigger number :) I don't like these late 30s numbers myself, but I am coming around to try to embrace it and enjoy the moment. I am healthy and have a beautiful family. I don't so much want to be in my 20s, as I just want to stop the clock. I like who I am now.

And when I feel really blah, I work on diet, exercise, and housework. I want to be a cool woman in my 40s and not an old lady before my time. Feeling blah makes you feel old more than the other way around.

I stopped at 29. I have been 29 for a while now. Age is just a number who cares if it is 37, 40 or 45. It really all just depends on how you feel. Can you get up and play like you did at 30? Can you still have a fun giggly date night with your boyfriend (SO) like you did when you first met? Those are the ages not the numbers you are counting.

Happy 29th Birthday!

First Happy Birthday and no you are not old!
Birthdays we look so forward to them as children and teenagers think about how our lives will be when we are a certain age. Then bam hit that age and some things are the way they should be and others are not quite as we thought so this birthday is blah. Make sure you get that cake or pie you really like and your favorite dinner. The day is just a day it will be better and yes I think 37 is harder then 40. Hope your day gets better.

Just wait until you have a 26-year-old spirit inhabiting a 58-year-old body. Deal with it.

Don't you know what your are? You are, what you is.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!!! No need to feel down, because you are having the time of your life. It's YOUR Birthday - Nobody else. If you psych yourself into feeling old - you will become old.

Keep those 20 somethings happening, and take a nap when you are out of juice. It's OK - WE are all there for you.

Give yourself a happy birthday by doing something nice for yourself, either today or this weekend. If you still feel like a 20-something most days, that means you're still healthy and in good shape and have managed to keep some of your wonder of the world. So dance, sing, celebrate having a young outlook. Age is just a number.

And I know, when you're feeling low about getting old people like me can be a little annoying. :-) Happy birthday!

I too feel like a 20 something most days, and have for all of my 30s. So I've had 8 years now to talk to people about it. And guess what?! Most people don't feel much older than that on the inside. My mom just turned 60 and she still feels 20 something on the inside. My dad is 60 too but he feels 40 (he's always been an "old soul"). I think there is an age in our lives that we really identify with and most of us don't think we are "old" we think we are young, carefree, adults who are taking on responsibility and that is our 20s that we identify with.
So, you're not alone. Keep feeling young on the inside because that is what really matters in your life and how you approach it. And yes, the number on the outside will continue to go up, but as long as you keep living the number on the outside doesn't really matter.
