Birthcontrol - Anoka,MN

Hi- I am currently on the Mirdea (sp) IUD. I love it, and have had it in for 3 1/2 years. The past month I have had crazy pregnancy symptoms: Tired, hot flashes, nausous, hungry... this is the first time I have encountered this- Plus I usually will get a little bit of my period (very, very little), but at least something and I have had nothing for the past 2 months. I have taken a pregnancy test but it is negative. Is this common with anyone else that has this IUD? I know that it is very, very unlikely to get pregnant with this, but I also know that if you do it can be bad for the mother and could possibly cause infertility or a miscarriage.

What can I do next?

Huh. I just got done telling another mother how much I like Mirena (and I do), but now that you mention it I have had a few of these symptoms over the last year, most especially the hot flashes and nausea. I have chalked it up to nursing, post pregnancy hormones etc, but I just told my husband the other day that I always feel too warm and kind of icky sweaty and it drives me crazy. I'm 33 and I have had the occasional crazy thought it might be early menopause but I somehow doubt it. When your own mother and grandmother go through it is usually a telling timetable and my mother was in her mid-fifties when it hit her.

I too took a pregnancy test a few months back because of the nausea and it was negative. Maybe I'll mention this @ my next gyno appointment. Let us know if you come up with anything!

I have had the Mirena for a year and a half and no longer have any monthly bleeding or any side effects. Every woman is different though. I feel particularly happy with the Mirena. If you think you could be pregnant, definitely check in with your Dr.

I have had both of the iuds. I didn't like the Mirdea at all because of not having a period and always thinking you are pregnant. I have the other iud right now and I love it. I dont know the name of it. All I know its for 10 yrs. I have my period each month and no signs of being pregnant. I have had it about 6 months now. Well good luck on the mirdea.

I would ask your doctor. You can also go in and get a pregnancy blood test which is more accurate than the over the counter urine tests. I've had the Mirena for a little over a year and it's pretty common to not have a period, and I think your body's reaction to the Mirena can change with time. I didn't have a period for about 9 months with mine and then suddenly I got a period a couple of months ago followed by some bad cramping for one day. Now I'm back to no period (and no cramping). I did ask my doctor about it and he said that is not an uncommon pattern.

I also felt pregnant almost the entire time I was on Mirena. It got really old really fast. I took 4 pregnancy tests over the course of 6-8 months, never was pregnant, but it sure is a pain to have sore breasts and nausea constantly. I hope it goes away for you since it took so long to start, but who knows. And yes, getting pregnant on Mirena is often bad news!

Good luck!

How old are you? These sound like perimenopause symptoms, but they may just be related to the hormones in the Mirena.

I felt pregnant the entire time I had Mirena. I was miserable. I think it is common to have those symptoms. Once I had the IUD removed I was fine. Good luck.
