Had the same problem.. the generic shouldn't be much different. I switched to Alesse - generic Avianne (sp?). Much better.

Let me start ff by saying I am completely biased against the pill for contraception. If Yaz or generic equivalent were started for mood swings, this will make it worse. Yaz and all other birth control pills contain chemically enginered synthetic progesterone and estrogen. They are not biologically identical to our own natural hormones. They are metabolized differently. Some of these pills make mood swings unbearable, some can cause migraine, and almost all of them decrease libido. Long term effects? Who knows? All I know is that there has been an increase in breast cancer in older women, and I don't know if they loooked at what kind of birth control they were taking for how many years. Anyway, finding an effective alternative that is as convenient is tough. There are IUDs, there are diaphragms. And condoms. Hope this was helpful.

I had no problems with Yasmin but our insurance changed and I had to go on the generic which is Ocello. I had absolutely no sex drive, couldn't climax, etc.... I went off the pill and started using an alternative b/c and my libido returned within a week.

I had not been on Yaz however I did experience the mood swings with that other new pill that's chewable. There is always a formulary generic version available 2 years after the brand name hits the market. Chemically they are the same however, with the chewable one, the generic version was not chewable. If you are thinking the generic will have less of an mood effect, most likely it will not. You may have to come off the yaz and go to another formula if that is your focus. Ask the dr who proscribed yaz to write you a generic prescription or to adjust the prescription for a generic substitute - the pharmacist can figure it out.

I was on birth control pills on and off for almost 20 years before my daughter was born with no major problems. After she was born, I was put on Yasmin-then the generic. I had NO libido, migraines, and developed digestive issues that I am still addressing even after going off the pill (thankfully the libido and migraines worked themselves out). On the positive side, I didn't get pregnant! If I had to do it again, I would have looked into the newer IUDs.

I have been on both Yasmin, the generic of Yasmin and Yaz (for about 3 years). With Yasmin, my body does fine, I take it for reasons other than birth control. With Yaz, I felt horrible and switched to Yasmin. Tried the generic Yasmin (because of $) and with the generic, I felt horrible and switched back to Yasmin. I took Orthocept for years before my kids were born and was very, very happy with it. I don't think Yasmin does as good of a job (or my body has changed enough where I just don't reap the same benefits).

Back in February I stopped taking the Yasmin because I was experiencing stroke-like symptoms. My Dr.s couldn't pinpoint the cause but even at that time (before this article was written) I had my suspicions.

I acutally was on Yasmin before I had my son, who is now 15 1/2 months. When I went to get back on the pill my dr. had me go on a different pill (I think because it had more estrogen in it). Well, everything was fine and dandy till I saw how much it was. I think it came up to $45.00 with the co-pay each month. So I asked her for a generic. I am taking Sprintec and it works good with no side affects (for me). It's only $5.00 at Wal-mart. I would just talk to you dr about it.

I've heard specific things about the generic birth control being different from the others. Google it, I just read an article and saw something on TV recently. It said they ARE different, and do have different side effects.
