Hi there, rather personal question but I've got a problem with mine so I need to switch! Doctors app on Monday to discuss, I'd like to go in with a few to talk about.

What are you using? How long? Benefits? Side effects? Problems?

I am currently on Marvelon... in my 20's I was on Alesse but had to switch due to cysts. I had my son in Aug 2009 and was right back on Marvelon (BFing was impossible due to health reasons so doc said go back onto BC). For a while it was fine, but since we have moved from Norway to Scotland and then to USA, I seem to be spotting or having a full blown AF every 2-3 weeks. I've always been fairly regular too. That being said there could be an underlying issue but just in case I'd like to have a few other BC options to talk to doctor about.

Any and all advice is welcome and thanks in advance!

I really love the copper/no hormone IUD (10 year). And I have friends who love the Mirena IUD with hormones (5 year). I react very badly to any hormonal birth control, so for me a 10 year solution that I never have to think about, with NO hormones was perfect! I had it taken out when I wanted to have a baby and got pregnant immediately.
Yes, I do experience heavier periods but for me that is no big deal since my periods weren't bad to begin with.

Good luck!

Nuva ring is easy to use and is very low dose. It comes in a refrigerated box and stays in the fridge until you insert it. If it is uncomfortable during intercourse you can remove it for a while and then put it back in. Not so many side effects as a pill.

I'm using the Mirena IUD for almost a year. I have the one that last 5 years. You don't have to worry about it. I don't have any side effects or problems. I spot here and there but have not had a regular period since. There's also a 10 year Mirena IUD

My friend also had Mirena IUD it came out she had it replaced and it came out again. I forget what she's using now

I've done the Nuva Ring thing for a bit, however, I am not a flexible as I used to be and inserting it became a bit of an ordeal. Sometimes it would come out on it's own, I just didn't like it. I'm now on Seasonique, which is nice. It's a three month supply so that you only get your period once every three months. The first pack I was on there was some spotting during the time I would have had my normal period, but since then I haven't had any problems

I'm on Loestrin 24 pill and I really like it. My periods are regular and very light. Before I went on BC, I had horrible craps and very heavy bleeding. My period usually last 2-3 days. I don't experience spotting. The downside it that it doesn't have a generic and can be quite expensive depending on your insurance. With my insurance it would cost almost $70 a month. However, they have a card program that I got from my doctor and it takes the cost down to $24 a month. I've been on it for 1 1/2 years.

After years and years of being on the pill, after our second child was born I got the Paraguard IUD. I love it! I don't have to worry about hormones and remembering to take my pill every night. The only downside is that my period is quite heavy but other than that I wouldn't go back to the pill.

I have been on the Mirena IUD for about 3 years now and only problems I have had is that I am a little more PMS'y then I used to be. Periods went from 2-3 days in the beginning to just a day or 2 of spotting now. No other issues, I would do it again when this one has to come out/be replaced.

I have been using Desogen since 1999 and have had no problems with it. I tried Seasonique once and had terrible side effects, i.e. acne, gained 10 lbs, irritability. Went back to Desogen and once again have no issues.
