I had my daughter in Germany 3 months ago. My Dr (German), prescribed Cerazette for birth control. It is an estrogen only pill as I am also nursing. From talking with family and friends, Cerazette is the equivelant to the "mini-pill" I started the pill on the 1st of Nov. I had a period the 10-18. That is long for me. Then four days later I started another period. I didn't miss any days taking the pill and I took it at the same time every day. Does anyone out there have any ideas about what could cause this? This is also the first time I have ever used a birth control. So, I am totally new to the effects and issues and problem solving. Thanks in advance for any help!
I don't have periods for 9-18 months after having a baby. Right now I have a 7 month old and no period yet. I was on the "mini pill" after my 4th baby and I didn't have a period for 14 months with that baby. When I finally had one, they were kind of weird. Even after I stopped the pill, it took about a year of being off the pill for my cycles to get normal again. Good luck and congratulations!
Estrogen only pills (or estrogen dominant pills) are very dangerous. They are strongly linked to cancer and aneurisms. They used to have them in America, but they are no longer used because of the high incident of horrible side effects. If it is progesterine only, then that would be the mini-pill. The issue with these pills is that the primary way they work is to effect an abortion if you conceive. They make the lining of your uterus inhospitable for a fertilized egg to implant. So, you may have long/heavy periods, which is likely a miscarriage of an early pregnancy. You might want to check more carefully by reading your package insert (if it is in English) or googling online about how the pill you are taking works and what it is actually made from.
Your hormones are probably still out of whack from the baby and breastfeeding. Give ourself a few months to get everything back to your new normal. Then talk to your Dr. if there are any problems.
With the mini pill you don't take a break (no fake pills in the pack) , if you have been taking it for 3 months and this is the first time this has happened then I would wait and see if it corrects itself , if not then see the Dr and explain what is happening , they will probably give you another one to try. The pill can do strange things and some people (like me) just cannot take them .
Just to clarify: Do you mean progesterone only? Typically, it's the estrogen you AVOID while nursing, I think.
Anyway, it could just be your body adjusting to being on the pill. Does it have a specific week for your period or is it a continuous dose?
If a call to your doctor is not feasible, I trip the the pharmacy could be useful. Talk to the actual pharmacist (not just whomever is at the counter) and they should be able to look up the drug information.
I was also prescribed this pill while living in the Netherlands (and yes, it is the mini-pill progesterin only, so you are totally safe!). I have to say that I did not like this pill at all, it made my system completely wacky! But, the doctor did say to wait 3 months and see how my body adjusted. I actually just stopped it and used other methods because i hated how moody I was. Maybe wait a few months and see if your body regulates better with it, and if it doesn't then talk about another option.

You may wish to see your ob-gyn again; mini-pills are also known as POPs which stand for progestin-only pills. If you are nursing, I'm surprised the physician did not prescribe a POP for you. If you are now in the states, you may wish to get an appointment with a new ob-gyn here just to be sure.
