I am getting my Mirena taken out on Saturday and am wondering if I should get on the pill or not. My BF and I want to start trying to conceive #2 in the next year or so, right now we are of the mind set if it happens it happens, but I would like to lose some weight, I still have 20 lbs to go to get to my goal weigh. Did going on the Pill cause you to gain weight? Was it harder to lose weight?
ETA: I am getting the Mirena taken out because it is causing me problems. We are switching birth controls just for a few months
ETA2: I want to have kids with my Boyfriend because we've been together for almost 9 years and already have one together, not that its anyones business why we want to have kids together.

What can I do next?

i would do no-hormone-whatsoever BC for a year before trying to conceive. condoms are nobody's idea of the funnest way to get it on, but they're effective and useful.

I'd just use condoms because some pills can make you gain weight and this way you can get all hormones out of your body and get it back to a natural state before you start trying.

I would not get on anything else. If you want to TTC in the next year or so, this will give your hormones time to level out after having been on BC.

Just track your period, and make sure to be extra diligent about using condoms during your fertile times. (I use a period tracker on my iPad, and it is pretty accurate.) that way, when you actively start TTC you will know when to go for gold.

Just use condoms. They are a pain, but they won't mess with your hormones so that when you are ready to conceive, you can just start trying.

If you are ok with conceiving earlier than planned, I would suggest foregoing the pill. I was on it for more than a decade and it did make it harder to loose the weight.
You could do a combination of NFP (natural family planning) with condoms on your fertile days. NFP will also help you conceive down the road.
Or you do straight condoms all the time.
Good luck.

The pull-out method has always worked great for us. The pill made me gain weight and switching is h*** o* your body and moods.

You might just go with condoms, if you don't care all that much if it does happen.
Going on the pill will mean that your cycle will have to adjust for a few months before you can get pregnant (usually).

I have never gained weight on the pill, but lots of people do. Just depends on how your body responds to hormones. If you did not gain with Mirena, it's unlikely that the pill would cause you to.

Honestly if I was planning on for sure trying to conceive within the next year I would just use condoms until that time and then look into the pill for after.

It sounds like you're not quite ready to have no birth control at all. I would either go on the pill or diligently use condoms. I'm currently taking Nortrel and haven't gained any weight with it.

If you don't think you'll use condoms EVERY time, I would definitely go on the pill. You should probably also use a spermicide until you're really ready to try.

Why are you trying for kids at all with your boyfriend?

When I was on the pill, I did gain some weight, about 10 pounds or so. When I went off of it, I lost the weight. It was pretty easy for me to lose the weight.

I'm confused though, if you are getting the mirena taken out and want to conceive, why are you going on the pill? It's still birth control. Wouldn't it be easier to conceive w/o the pill, or am I missing something?
