Has anyone used the NuvaRing for birth control while breast feeding? If so has your baby had any side effects from it (like jaundice)?

What can I do next?

I've heard the same as the previous posters. I like Mirena. I had it while BF my older son (I BF for a year) and never had any kind of side effects (or a period!). I'm getting it again the week after Christmas (I have a 5 week old).

I was on it before and after pregnancy but definitely not while breast feeding. I was prescribed the "mini pill" for the duration of nursing. I was told that one of the hormones in the ring would "dry you up." I would check with your dr asap about it so you don't. The mini worked well for me and I went back on the ring after I stopped nursing.

When I went back on BC 6 weeks after having my daughter, I was prescribed a progesterone only pill. I thought NuvaRing has estrogen, which would affect your milk supply.

There is only 1 type of BC you can take while nursing, and If I'm not mistaken it is not Nuva-Ring? I would call my DR. I work for an OBGYN practice, Not a nurse, but Sonographer but i am in the back office and hear the nurses on a daily basis I beleive that the only pill you can take while nursing is a progesterone only mini pill. Call your Dr. Office.

I got pregnant while on the nuvaring and when i had my baby she had jaundice and no longer has it. I chose to breastfeed but when I got on my birthcontrol I decided to use the depo shot instead of the nuvaring and have had no problems breastfeeding while on it or my child having any side effects.

Hopefully this helps,

I haven't used NuvaRing, but I've used Natural Family Planning (creightonmodel.com) for 7 years and I love it. I can't recommend it enough.

I have taken Nuvaring in the past (before my 1st). You should NOT be using NuvaRing if you are BF; you should either get an IUD or use the minipill!!
