You should seek the services of a nutritionist and perhaps a counselor.
If you are 5'7" your weight is within bounds. 140lbs and 5'7' is a BMI of 21.9. Normal BMI for that height/weight is 18-25.

1400 calories a day is probably not enough. If you starve your body, you won't lose weight.

Also eating an entire bag of popcorn is not "binging". I feel that you have a skewed reality about your weight and about what is considered healthy.... hence the suggestion to see a counselor.

Good luck.

i'm very worried about you.
this is an unhealthy fixation on your weight and eating issues. 1400 calories is an unrealistic number to eat for any length of time, especially for someone who is already at a great weight for her height.
3lbs is a very normal weight fluctuation, especially around menses.
a bag of popcorn is no way, shape or form a 'binge that couldn't stop.'
i think you have an eating disorder and need professional help right away.
that's what you should do. today.
get help.

tomorrow you get up, enjoy life and forget about this. Are you amazing or what? Five foot seven, and one hundred forty pounds. I am five feet tall and one hundred fifty. My husband loves me, I survived cancer and I am healthy and alive. I am not fat. I think you should rethink what you want in life. Appreciate you for what you are. Why do you think you have to be different? Life is very short. Enjoy life. Enjoy your family. The rest can come (being super skinny) when you have nothing else to do. Get up and celebrate your day/!!!!

Your post makes me sad, since at 5'7" and 140 lbs, you are actually at a healthy weight for your height. The scale is just a number and it does not define who you are.

I don't know what you consider to be exercise, but I would recommend walking. Or how about you take the kids to the park tomorrow and play on the equipment with them? Play tag, climb a tree,do the monkey bars, slide down the slides, swing on a swing. How about enjoying yourself and your kids instead of worrying about some stupid number?

I have the same body stats as you. I cannot imagine thinking that I should lose weight. People our size are medium-sized, fit-looking people! We all have imperfections (that is expected) but extra weight isn't one of them. Maybe you don't like your upper arms or your stomach or your hips.....? Pick your least favorite spot and just work on toning it. My goodness, I am bout 40 yrs old and have been 5'7 for 25 years and this weight for 10 years. No one, not even my fitness-freaky sisters think that I am fat or need to lose weight. Silly mama, get rid of your scales if you need to and stop paying attention to the numbers of you are unable to see your body as others do. This can be really unhealthy and waste a lot of time (and good food).

When I was thinner I remember for my bone size I was supposed to be around 100lbs. I weighed 125 and was solid. I could press more than double my weight with my legs, but as for using my upper body to bench press anything???? Not even 25lbs. The only time I could bench press the bar with my upper body was when it was empty.

I wore 12's and 14's. I was not fat or overweight. I weighed more because muscle weighs more than fat. I played softball at college and ran 5 miles every night. I hardly ate anything because I was always on the run.

I had discovered chocolate and ate 2-3 candy bars per day, I had not really been allowed to eat candy as a child so I binged on it as an adult.

So I couldn't lose weight at all. I was the minimum I could be unless I let my muscle get soft and then start working on toning but not having muscles so much. At least that's what the personal trainer told me a couple of times.

R., have you considered that you might need to start thinking about your body image and perhaps toning and shaping your body with exercise so you'll feel less out of shape?

I do have to say that I googled how much you should weigh and if you have a medium frame you are exactly what you should weigh.

Nearly every post you have ever made has been about your weight. You had a baby a while back so your body has changed shapes. Exercising will make you feel and look different. You don't weigh much for your height. You are not overweight according to several web sites that I looked it up on. You may just need to do an exercise like swimming or aerobics/zumba/pilates or just something that will tone you up.

Here's a link to how many calories you are supposed to be eating, it's a bit more than you are taking in.

I was obese at one time. So, I can relate to weight issues. With that being said, you do NOT have to lose alot of weight at all ! You are a nice, tall height !

If the popcorn is air popped, it's ok. If it's the processed junk in the bag...Then, it's not healthy...and full of fat.

Eat breakfast. snack, lunch, snack and dinner. Drink a few glasses of pure water inbetween meals. And increase your calories a tad. You are starving your body. Eat more and force yourself to excercise. An excercised body is toned and healthy. After a certain age, fat replaces muscle. Plus, excercise is a must for a healthy heart.

Also, don't stress out over this. Stress will cause u to hold onto weight !

There is a GREAT dr in Norwalk that does acupuncture. It really works to
release the energy blockages. I have gone to this dr and he is fabulous!

I eat about 2000 calories a day and I excercise 4 days a week. I eat lots of raw veggies and fruits as snacks !

You may not be getting enough calories, so your body actually thinks it's starving. It's an evolutionary response to reduce food intake. The metabolism slows down to conserve energy, and more food is actually stored as fat. Weight fluctuates a lot in response to hormonal influences too.

Don't punish yourself about the popcorn. Stuff happens. You feel worse both emotionally ("I failed") and nutritionally (too much of the wrong thing).

Exercise can help in terms of natural endorphins, but it also takes energy so you can't cut out everything. It also builds muscle, which weighs more than fat, so you can't just go by the scale. And be sure you are getting a real balance of calories, including protein and healthy fats - if you're only eating vegetables because they are low calorie, you aren't getting what you need.

You can safely supplement too - there are high absorption, balanced ways to do that, to nourish your body with everything it needs, as well as cut cravings and boost metabolism without using anything that stimulates the central nervous system. 99% of what you find in the natural food aisle is not good stuff and manufactured in other countries with insufficient controls but there are a few things you can find elsewhere, direct from the food science company, that meet your needs. If you want some suggestions, let me know.

The scale is just a thing with numbers. They are often out of balance and do not work. They also fluxuate from one to another such as home to the doctor's. The more you check the scale, the more you'll be frustrated. I don't check a scale at all when I start to lose weight. What matters most is how you feel. If you're feeling good then great! If you're noticing your clothes starting to get looser then awesome! Your body isn't a number honey. Your body is way more than that and you can't base your personal feelings and success all on those little numbers that are on the scale. Weight yourself by how you feel not the numbers and you'll see yourself a whole new way. Don't give up and don't fret too much. Just take a look at yourself and say how you're feeling that day. Your body will tell you, not the scale.

You have not gained weight "for no reason" - Your body is going into starvation mode...you are not eating enough calories to sustain your body so it is holding on to EVERYTHING you are eating...and storing it as fat. Especially since you are NOT working out. You aren't doing ANYTHING to consume the calories you are taking in...just normal "life".

What should you do? You need to talk with a nutritionist and get on a diet plan (and diet meaning meals not diet as in starving yourself) that works for your body and your work out routine.

are you drinking plenty of water?
what's your caffeine intake?

You need to start working out. Find a work out that works for you - whether it's a DVD at home or a gym...figure out what works for you - walking, jogging, something to burn the calories.

good luck!

Do not purge.

You are a good wt for your hight. You are a good person, good wife and good mom. You need the energy food provides to be all those things.
If you are experiencing some problems in those areas right now, it's temporary. Tomorrow will be a better day with chances to talk to a counselor and get some perspective. Everyone needs a friend and a counselor can be that for you.

Try some journalling tonight. I do a prayer journal everyday. Seek and ye shall find, knock and it shall be opened to you.

Get rid of the scale! Lock it up and only take it out once a month if you absolutely must! But it really sounds like you need to get rid of it completely.
That number means so little in the grand scheme of things. If you have more muscle you're going to weight more than if you have little muscle because muscle weights more than fat. If you just ate, or just drank or haven't gone to the bathroom yet or just finished. What you are or are not wearing changes the number. If you are retaining water, where you are in your menstrual cycle.
Your height and weight sounds right where it should be. If you think you "look fat", maybe have some "soft spots", perhaps you need some toning, not necessarily weight loss.
That's not a whole lot of calories. If you don't provide enough calories to your body it will begin to hoard and store everything it can because it thinks it is starving. So if you eat too few calories your body will hold on to whatever fat it does have to keep itself alive and functioning.
A whole bag of popcorn is far from binging! Make sure you drink a little more water to flush out the extra salt (assuming it was salted) and move on.
It is natural and normal for a person to waver 3-5 lbs from any given day, or even time of day. Does not mean it's permanent. Does not mean it's unhealthy. Does not mean you need to do anything different.
A number of your posts are about weight. I really think you need help getting a healthier look at things.

I am slim and muscular, 5'9 and 155 pounds. No fat. You may have a much smaller skeleton (I have broad shoulders and big bones), but you don't seem very overweight for the drastic calorie reduction. Sounds like your body is starving and conserving what you're eating. Don't count calories. Eat 75% raw fruit and vegetables, moderate amounts of healthy whole grains, and small amounts of animal proteins, but eat for NOURISHMENT, not comfort and you will be fine. Once you are eating enough HEALTHY food, increase your exercise and muscle tone, but don't fixate on pounds. Muscle is heavier than fat and I am slimmer than some people who are much lighter than me.
If you are healthy, you will be beautiful. Just eat well. And don't fast between lunch and dinner (6 hours) if you are, eat a little snack around 3-4pm so you don't binge at dinner. Go to bed early on empty stomach, and drink lots of water throughout day. You can do it, good luck!

Also, you HAVE to exercise. No matter how well you eat, you will get out of shape and gain weight if you don't. But in order to exercise, you need to be nourished. No 1400 calorie diets!

Don't let this be the "excuse" to quit the diet.....

Just go back to it tomorrow.

One thing to remember..... when you drastically cut your calorie intake, you also alter your metabolism.... your body goes into "starvation" mode, and that is one reason you quit losing weight.

Exercise will boost your metabolism....

As an experiment for a paper in school, I weighed myself 3x daily, for one month.

There were days my weight would fluctuate a full FIVE lbs in the same day! There were times when I would eat a lot, expecting to get on the scale and see a gain, and see a loss. And there were days I would expect to see a loss, and see a gain.

Don't look at the scale too much. It will drive you crazy. Instead, focus on how you feel. Do you FEEL healthy? If you think your weight is an issue (which I REALLY hope you don't... I'm the same height and weight, and I think I look DAMN good! ;) Please don't call me fat!) then look at your waist size, (or thigh, butt, wherever you carry your weight.) Add some to toning and cardio exercises instead of just calorie counting, and measure yourself.

You're not losing weight because you're starving yourself. Your body has gone into fat conservation mode. When you have your period, it's normal to have some water weight fluctuation.

And your "binge" on popcorn is probably a moot point since popcorn is pretty healthy if it's not loaded with butter and salt.

I think what you need to do today is call your doctor for a referral to a nutritionist.
