Hi, I'm a stay at home mom, my son will be 2 in July and I'm having a hard time losing the rest of my baby weight. I gained around 70ish pounds & I had a c-section so I'm having a really hard time in the mid-section. I go to a local womens only gym but I'm getting no where since I over eat at night, and its nothing but junk food. I was just wondering if anyone has any advice on late night over-eating. And any good ideas on exercises for the stomach/hips after a c-section. Thanks in advance!!

What can I do next?

Hi S.! I don't know where you live but I work at Xtreme Fitness. We have 3 locations in Macomb county. There is a guy I work with his name is Nick. In one month I lost a dress size with the routine he set up for me and gave me good tips on food. He does specialize in personal training and nutrition. We also have day care at all three of the gyms. Good luck!

I didn't have a c-section, but i did gain about 60lbs when i had my son. I joined Jenny Craig and i have lost almost all of my weight and he is only 8 months old. I also go to the gym everyday, which helps a lot. One thing i learned through jenny craig is women are suppoce to only eat about 1500 calories a day and i eat 6 small meals throughout the day so i don't binge eat b/c i am never starving. If i need a snack i eat those 100 calorie snack packs b/c they are controled and you don't have a whole bag of potatoe chips in front of you and get carried away. Also, i snack on fruit or veggies. Also, do lots of cardio....because it is all about calorie input and calorie output. It will be a gradual process, but i have learned a whole new lifestyle when it comes to food. I lose about 2lbs a week, which is the healthy way to lose it. I wish you the best of luck....it is really frustrating trying to lose the weight...so keep trying and you will get there!!!

Here are a couple suggestions for ab exercises:

Lay on the ground and place your hands under your back for support. Your legs should be extended straight in front of you. Lift your legs off the ground slightly and make a scissor motion. This will work your lower stomach.

Another exercise to work the lower stomach is lay on the ground with both hands under neck and legs extended straight above head(you are making an L shape with your body). Then lift your legs straight up using stomach muscles, almost like you are making a stamp with your feet on the ceiling.

I hope this helps you...just push yourself and you will see results!! Good luck :)

From my experience, I had to get the junk food eating under control, because you're right...you're not getting anywhere exercising if you aren't eating healthy. Of course, continue to exercise!! What I learned is that I can't have junk food in the house!! Your son shouldn't miss it because he probably doesn't know any better. If your husband will complain because it's not around, ask him to buy it himself and hide it :-) Find a veggie or a fruit you like and chow away when you have to have something late at night. Or, find a lighter version of the junk-food you like. Another thing that helps me is WATER. It fills me up, it helps with weight loss and SOMETIMES (not all the time) helps with cravings. Good luck! It's hard work.

It has been proven that women tend to overeat at night...and do you know why..because during the day things are so hectic and stressful we don't even think about it. But when the kids are in bed and the house is quieter and we finally sit down...the first thing on our minds is FOOD. I am horrible about this too. I have had two c-sections and two vaginal births. I have four children under the age of nine. It is hard to not eat. I try not to buy anything that will be a temptation for me...because I will eat it. If you find any good mid section tummy toners let me know...I need some:)

I have always had a sweet tooth and never seem to lose the baby weight very quickly because of it:) Last November I gave birth to my 4th child and now have only a few pounds to go. This is all because I used the diet and exercise plan from the Abs Diet. It gives a schedule for eating, recipes, and lists healthy foods including whole grain and protein. I still eat sweets, but never feel the need to eat them every night or all day like I used to. The most important thing is that you find healthy alternatives, don't deprive yourself completely, and find ways to stay active. Good luck to you!

Hi S. - I finally lost my mid section - after having a c-section by exercising and cutting out carbs at night. Carbs after 6:00 turn into sugar etc.....If you feel the need to eat you need to have low-fat cheese/kashi whole wheat crackers or popcorn on hand. I have all the snacks in my house for my kids but don't allow them to eat them at night either. Hope this helps.....

S., I found that more meals, but smaller portions, help me. I eat breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner and I 'm doing pretty well with that. I think breakfast is the key! Also, smaller portions and healthier choices. If you eat dinner at 6, and get hungry by 9 or 10, try drinking water to curve the hunger, or snack on rice cakes, carrots, celery sticks, etc. Fruit before bed is NOT a good idea though b/c of all the sugars, so avoid that. If you really want something sweet, my new favorite thing is flavored ice (frozen Crystal Light). That curves my cravings ; ) Lastly, don't buy junk - if its not in your house, you won't see it and therefore, you won't eat it!
Good luck S. - I know its hard, I just had my second baby!

It all starts at the grocery store. If you don't bring the junk into the house it won't be there for you to eat later. You should keep cut up fruit in the fridge ready to go or yogurt and when you want that quick something to eat it's right there. Portion size is also very important. Don't have that ice cream or small snack if your craving it. I will have a half of scoop of ice cream in a kids snack cup if I want it the trick is to use smaller plates and bowls. I like to do the Billy Blanks cd's with the bands.
Good Luck

Hi S.!

I had a c-section and was a stay at home mom as well. I found that if I wasn't busy doing something, my boredom would make me eat. I found that by making a grocery list and shopping when not hungry, I would not buy the foods I craved, and therefore wouldn't have the conveniences of having them in the house. Also, if I put a picture of a fit woman in a bikini on the fridge or pantry door, it would remind me of how I wanted to look and give me second thoughts about reaching for that ice cream or chips. I'm still trying to figure out how to get rid of that c-section belly, but I have lost 35 pounds, and it does get smaller. Slim fast also helped me loose my weight, along with vegetables, grilled chicken, fruits, cottage cheese, and yogurt. I would eat the same dinners I cooked for my husband and son, but pay attention to the feeling when I wasn't hungry anymore, not eat until full. I also tried to avoid the unnecessary carbs like dinner rolls or garlic bread, and eat more meat and veggies and less carbs. I hope this helps...good luck, I know it isn't easy. H.

Hi S., I sure understand where you are coming from, I had twins almost a year ago and gained about 70lbs. It's the most I ever gained and with a heart problem have a hard time working out and stuff. But I was told about this website, sparkpeople.com, it's great! It has everything you need on it, it helps you track your food, lets you know how much fat, carbs, so on that you should eat in a day. Also has many recipies too. It helps you change into a health lifestyle, not just lose weight for now. A lot of my friends and family are on it and we have all lost a lot of weight since we joined. It also helps to keep you motivated as well. Good luck with the baby weight!

I gained 80 pounds with my daughter (who is turning 3 in July) and I still have that last 20 pounds hanging around. I have the same problems with late night eating. Around 10 p.m. I find that I usually feel like I am starving. I have a few things that seem to work for me. Before I eat anything, I drink a very large cup of water. If I am still hungry I'll either eat a bowl of cereal (something like Rice Crispies, or Quaker Oat Squares, Frosted Mini Wheats if I'm craving something sweet) or if I have them on hand, I'll drink a Slim Fast shake.
