I like garage sales in rich neighborhoods, especially on the last weekend of the month when people are just before the next paycheck. Or the first of the month if the first is a Saturday when a lot of people are at the bank, trying to cash their check.

My daughter uses freecycle.com and there are several like that.

Drive the rich neighborhoods on the evening before "trash day" when the rich put their trash out by the street. Its not uncommon to find nearly new trikes or bicycles in the trash.

Then there is always Deseret industries, Goodwill, and the Salvation Army and thrift shops. I've seen trikes for $5 and bikes for $10.

Try freecycle at yahoo.

A few years ago I got a tricyle from Aldi's(yes the grocery store) for $20. I just happened to look at one of their flyers, they usually come out on Wed or Thursdays in the newspaper. They also carry the next weeks flyer in the store. If you have one near you it is worth checking out, we have one in our neighborhood. It pretty much was around this time of year, I remember because my sons birthday is end of April and it was one of his presents. I would have sold it to you, but I just got rid of it last year at a garage sale for $ 10.00! It was primary colors, red, blue, yellow and white. Anyway it wasn't shoddy and frankly they really don't ride it for that long, a couple of years and then on to the next one. The only pain is that until they get the motion of riding you have to bend over to push them. The more expensive ones at Target and online have the bar that attaches to push them.

I would also highly suggest subdivsion garage sales in the suburbs, I live in the western suburbs and there are many of them in May/June, you usually have 50+ houses participating and there is always tons of kids stuff. But it goes fast, so be there 1st day and early.

One place to try out is flea markets. My husband sells at the Swap O Rama in Melrose Park and is keeping his eye open. I am looking for something for my 2 yr old-hoping to get something lower in cost. Some flea markets have really great deals but sometimes you have to really check often. Now that summer is coming around and more garage sales are going to happen, I will be checking them for possibilities as well.
