Bh's vs Real Labor Contractions

I have been having contractions all day-most of them only tightening though. Is one of the differences between the two just the fact that there is cramping with real labor contractions, but not with Braxton Hicks? I've had BHs contractions since like 17weeks, but today feels different. They are irregular though, which makes me think its just false labor. They have definitely picked up tonight and some are accompanied with cramps. Im also wondering if maybe the crampiness is due to him moving around in there.
Can you explain to me the difference between the feeling of BHs and the feeling of real labor contractions? I am 38w2d and dilated to 2cm with a soft cerivix. Last time i was checked i was 36 weeks and this is my 2nd child.

I had mostly back labor so I"m not sure, but i would call your doctor or the hospital where you will be delivering and ask them. Better safe than sorry.

Hi there! Congrats on your new little one almost being here!

What I have always gone by is the timing - you are supposedly not officially in labor unless you are having consistent contractions that are 5 minutes apart. Try drinking a big glass of cold water and getting in the bath. If they stop, it's just BH :)

every pregnancy is different and for me each pregnancy the bh's got worse sooner they were quite painful for me in the second and worse in the 3rd pregnancy. good luck

I am in my third pregnancy...with my first two my contractions were never consistent! They kept telling me with both my boys that it wasn't real labor cause the machines were telling them they were not consistent...but hey, within two hours my boys were born. Trust your body first! In fact...I barely made it to the hospital (I checked in at 9cm) with my second because they told me not to come until they were consistent...not every woman or labor is the same. Trust your body...and in the end...better safe than sorry!!!!

Hi there
USUALLY real labor continues to get more painful and the pains closer together. Time the space between pains. If it gets progressively shorter you may be in labor. BH tend to come and go without any real pattern. If you are at all concerned call your Dr or go to the hospital
Good luck
