Best Way to Lose Weight
I just recently had a baby girl and gained 60 pounds during my pregnancy. But I was wondering what would be the best way to lose weight.

Most of the problems that we have are allergy related. My body is shifting with allergy treatments and detox foot patches and detox wraps. I just walk, nothing strenuous.
be well.

#1. Look at corn syrup for the poison that it is. Eat absolutely no food that has this garbage. Read the labels!!! The overwhelming majority of this nations corn is grown for corn syrup/corn syrup products, not cattle feed, not exports, not other products. Look it up if you don't believe me. It is designed to make you want to eat. And eat. And never be satisfied.
#2. I don't know you but if you drink the stuff, NO SODAS. Look at the portion size. A lot of these things on the market in a can are actually 2 or 3 servings. And if you really MUST have the junk never, ever, have the diet form. A lot of the people that drink diet sodas are absolutely huge. This is because the diet stuff makes you want to have sweets even worse and it spins you in an endless cycle of addiction to sugar.
#3. If you want to be proactive, learn about a dozen different salads that you can make and taste really good. Learn ways to make produce taste really, really good for you. I love cutting up jicama/cucumber/mango and squeezing lemon, mmmm but that's me for snacks. Figure what works for you. Produce, especially deeply colored produce and the stuff that is in season, is your friend.
#4. I have asthma and I avoid dairy. This side benefit is that it caused me to lose weight when I eliminated dairy from the diet. I suggested this to friends who also had similar, surprising results. You don't need to consume dairy to be able to nurse. Just a suggestion/challenge
#5. What exercise do you like? If it's walking, find a mommy/me group or hiking group. Find a friend will relieve stress as well but if not, don't stay home. Bring music with you, or not, but get out of your house and into the world and move around!

There is a book you can check out of the library by Bob Harper called "Are you Ready?" that deals with weight loss and the proper foods to eat as well as exercises you can do to get into shape. Reading the book has really helped me.
Congratulations on your newborn and best of luck,
J.

Be as healthy as you can. Eat right, exercise, etc - you know the drill. I did not lose weight with my kids UNTIL I STOPPED BREASTFEEDING!!! My body needed the fat reserves to make the milk for feeding. after I weaned, it was SOOOO much easier to lose the weight. Be gentle to yourself. You body has and continues to go through many stresses, and when you can "take you body back" and nobody else is depending on you for nutrition, you will be more successful!

Hi B.,
Congrats on your baby girl! Remember that it took you 9 months to gain that weight, allow yourself at least 9 months to expect your body back. The safest way for you and your baby to stay healthy is for you to nurse. Pay attention to what you eat, (avoid fried foods) and exercise and your body will gradually return to it's proper weight. Be sure to exercise at least every other day. Also, once you ween your baby, be sure that you decrease your serving portions because you don't want weight to come back on after you ween. Lastly, after giving birth to our children, our bodies change, they do not go back to their before pregnancy state. Appreciate your body, take good care of it and you will be happy!

I just did an internet diet called "Diet for Idiots". My friend lost 11 pounds in 3 weeks and I lost 6 pounds on the 2 week cycle. It costs $50, but is totally worth it. You can google it and see that is has mostly positive responses. It gives you 2 columns of food and you choose 15 items from each column, so you are eating foods that you like! It then computes an 11 day diet for you using the foods you choose. You get 4 meals a day and can eat any combination of the food listed for each meal or just one, it is up to you. I have passed it along to numerous friends who have also been successfull. My husband is currently doing it and has lost 11 pounds. Good Luck with whatever you choose to do!

I gained 35 lbs and lost it within about 4 months of giving birth. Nursing helps A LOT - you burn tons of calories. Also I walk about 40 min. a day. When my daughter was a baby I wore her most of the time in a Moby, sling, or mei tai, and I am sure that gave me a little extra burn as she got heavier. Not too much sugar or other junk foods. Lots of fruit, whole grains, and protein. Good luck and enjoy your little one!

Hi, try looking at this free site sparkspeople.com, its great. I've LOST over 30 pounds in a few weeks from following a diet and fitness plan. It's a cool community and you can talk with other people about what they did and read articles, input your meal, etc. The people on this site is awesome and if you feel like you're about to give up you can chat on the "panic" feature and tons of people will encourage you to keep going. I've learned so much on this site from reading articles, to setting reasonable goals (and accomplishing them), to meeting others in my shoes, etc. Remember it's not going to be easy and it's not going to fall off, just burn more calories than you consume (healthy calories), don't starve yourself (body will plateau) and in a matter of weeks you'll look great!

I completely agree with the comment about "eating right and exercise". You have got to do both, or your body won't get where you want it to be. Personally, I try not to snack and if I do, I make up for it w/a light lunch. I also make food compromises, like...if I eat dessert, I can't have a big yummy dinner. THE KEY: I workout at least 5 days a week. I have a Men's Fitness DVD that has 4 different 15 minute workouts w/small weights AND I also have a Pilates DVD that has 5 different 10 minute workouts. I alternate with the two, and it has paid off...such a small investment in time for a big payoff. I gained 47 pounds w/my 15 month old daughter and had to get busy. It takes alot of discipline, but eventually becomes a lifestyle change and necessity!
GOOD LUCK and congrats!!!
