Best Type of Thermometer?
I am curious if any of you have used a temporal thermometer and what you think of them. I am interested in getting one for my 16 month old. Any other thermometer suggestions??
Thanks for your help in advance!

We have one and we dont get sick often. Recently my son felt hot so I used it and it said 98 so I believed it. But my mommy instincts kept saying it wasnt right so about an hour later I tried again and still 98 so I used another one and took it under his arm and it was actually 101. Im just not sure I trust it anymore. I wonder how many low fevers I have missed now. I changed the battery in it and it still didnt show his fever that day BTW

My daughter accepts the temporal thermometer with ease. I am not entirely sure it is always completely accurate (it seems to measure slightly low) but it is close enough for me to know for sure if her temp is elevated. There is no screaming and crying - she doesn't mind this thermometer at all. It is worth every penny and I wish I'd purchased one earlier.

A.,
LOVE the Temporal Scan Thermometers. I find them to be very accurate and easy to use. Plus my kids love to get a "brain scan":)

When my children were young we only had a glass thermometer then upgraded to a digital one. We always ended up taking the temp under the arm. I worked in a nursing facility, we had a temporal thermometer. I am not sure of the brand. As long as we were just doing monthly vitals with normal temps it was fine. My experience with this thermometer when a patient was feverish was that it was not very accurate. We would go back and take the temp with a digital thermometer either orally or axillary and get a different reading that was usually higher than the temporal one.

I really like the temp scan thermometer. I use it on my 3 yr old and 20 month old. I have been using it for over a year now. It is very similar to the ones they use in the dr office. I always run it across the forehead and get three readings just to make sure. The three temps always come out within a tenth of a reading (ex. 100.3, 100.5, 100.2) I takes a little while to get the hang of it b/c you have to hold the button down while you run it across the forehead. If you don't then you will get a low reading...usually in the 97s or low 98s. Money well spent.
