Best Places to Live in Colorado?

We are trying to narrow down our places of interest. Right now we are very interested in Colorado. We are looking for a place that is family/children friendly, close to (or in?) the mountains, we want to be able to go hiking, camping, horseback riding, etc. ya know, all the outdoorsy type of things. But also close to muesems, a zoo, aquarium, good shopping, the theater, etc. We love cooler weather during the summer and snow during the winter. Someplace with a good economy as well because we will be moving there after my hubby graduates. Any suggestions? :)

I lived in Colorado Springs for 6 years. If you like snow 3/4 of the year, Colorado is the place to be...You do have to worry about snow until at least May, and at times, even in June. (Flurries on my Wedding Day--May 24th) I would never move back...too much snow...

Colorado Springs is beautiful in the warm months...even has won National awards! Very kid friendly, and about an hour from Denver (the only real aquarium you will find)...Mountains are close and Monument is even closer...Kid friendly, and close to mountains, horse back riding, hiking and the works....

Unless you live in Denver, most towns in that surrounding area has everything you are looking for.....

I vote for Colorado Springs! Of course, I live here, but that doesn't make me prejudiced in the least.

Aside from the fact that Colorado has sunshine over 300 days per year, all the things you are interested in are either here or not too far away. Go west a bit and you're in the mountains. Go east a bit and you're in the plains, which have their own beauty. Go north an hour and you get the sights of the Denver area. Go south an hour and you get the sights of Pueblo. We do get snow (sometimes it's not in winter, but that's always interesting). The nights are usually nice and cool in summer (compared to Georgia).

I can't tell you whether we have a good economy or not... because I don't know if there is one anywhere right now! :^P

I recommend that you find out all you can online. Then see if you can take a vacation in the part of Colorado that interests you most. By living there for a while you'll find out a million things you can't learn any other way.

I lived right in Denver for 13 years. It's the best place I've ever lived in the US. The *only* gripe I had was that the schools could be better. But head 20minutes out to the 'burbs and you'll get the good schools, too. We just preferred being in a city, so we made that choice. But you'll get LOTS more for your money being 20 minutes north, south, east or west of Denver proper (honestly, the suburbs all looked the same to me, just depended on whether you wanted to be closer to the mountians with less *view* of them, or farther away, but with phenomenal views of the Rockies). As for the outdoors stuff and the museum/zoo stuff, yeah, yeah, yeah, you'll get all that in the Denver area. I've never met a single person who doesn't LOVE living in Colorado.

Have you ever visited Durango? It is a smaller town, but super amazing people, extremely family and kid friendly, right on the mountains, and so pretty. In the summer you can float down the river and hike. In the winter you get snow. It is so nice there! If we ever move back to Colorado we are going there :)

I live in a city called Parker. About a 30- 45 min drive from Denver which has the zoo and an aquarium. Or it is about 45 min drive to Colorado Springs which has a really cool zoo where you can feed the giraffes which is tons of fun! It is in Douglas county which has one of the best school systems in the state. Its probably about an hour and a half drive from the mountains though. But there are a lot of outdoorsy things around here too, tons of horses! There are about 5 or 6 movie theatres pretty close to here. However, it can get hot here during the summer, not so cool here like in the mountains. A foothills community might be better for that, cuz then you are not too far from Denver and it would be an easy drive to the mountains.

Wanted to also say that the humidity here is not going to be the same as Georgia, we have very little humidity. So, a 90 degree day here might feel a lot more tolerable than a 90 degree day there. If you move into the mountains plan on a TON of snow during the winter. They had record snowfall this last year, which was great for all the skiers but I am not sure how the residents felt about it! LOL!

Go and look at Colorado's website.
Every State, has one.

Colorado is beautiful.
I have been there many times.
I had a Boyfriend and friends that lived there.

I've been to Telluride, Aspen, Denver, Boulder... Cherry Hills.
all really great areas.
Colorado is all very outdoorsy.

Again, look at their website.
Google search "People who have moved to Colorado", "Best places to live in Colorado for families", "Jobs in Colorado", "safest places to live in Colorado", "how to relocate to Colorado" etc.

good luck,
Susan
