Best Place for Snow Play in Big Bear

We're taking the kids (12 & 5) to Big Bear this weekend to play in the snow but need some advice on where to go. We like sledding the best so we were looking into Alpine Slide at Magic Mountain but also read some not so great reviews. One local suggested we just buy our own sledding discs and find a place off the side of the road and 'do it ourselves' to save the money but we're absolute novices and I wouldn't even know where to begin. Any suggestions? We'll be there for 1 full day and 2 nights.

What can I do next?

I went to some sledding place in Big Bear about 10 years ago. I can't remember the name of it, but you could pay admission to sled down the hill on inner tubes. It was a lot of fun. And the best part is that there was a moving walkway that took you back up the hill every time. I would imagine that it could be pricey for a family of four at $25/person!

You might want to call your hotel and see if they have a hill on their property that you can sled down. Or see if they have a shuttle that will drop you off at a roadside hill. You can buy yourself a cheap sled or rent one and go back to your hotel room for hot cocoa when you get cold.

Hi K., I grew up in OC and we used to go all the time to the snow in Big Bear. Unfortunately, I don't remember where or how to get there! I know that isn't much help. When we moved to AZ, the snow is about an hour and half from here and we didn't know where to go either. We just stopped at the gas station in town and asked the locals and they directed us to great places. So if no one else replies, maybe try that. Good luck and have FUN!!!

Be careful just pulling over, the officials will ticket vehicles on the roads, where people just stop and sled. I am sure wherever you are staying would be able to give you a great insider tip. But we have used the local areas (designated and provide you with a sled) they are good, we can't complain. Have Fun!!

Alpine slide is really fun. I went there several times when I lived in Cali. It is worth the money. You can find coupons in the big bear magazine or I believe if you go fot the last hour of the day it is cheaper. We always went about 1 hour before they closed and that was plenty of play time.
