Best Friend, Baby Shower and IVF...

My best friend in the entire world has had a rough few years. Almost 3 years ago her husband was diagnosed with GBM (a rare, incurable type of brain cancer). He has responded remaarkable well to treatment and is doing good today. Her father has cancer as well and is not doing very well at all. On top of all of this they have decided to try to have a baby. This is a wonderful decision for them and she has tried to be nothing but positive about her entire life. After a couple of treatments not working they have decided to go the IVF route. Yesterday they went for their consult and the doctor was less than knowledgable about pricing, financing, when they could start, ect. She came away bery upset and discouraged.
On top of all of this she is throwing me a baby shower Saturday. SHe has gone above and beyond for me - handmade cards, homemade cupcakes, the cutest decor you have ever seen.
I am looking for some type of hostess gift, something I can do for her to show her how much she means to me. Any tips? Suggestions? Words of wisdom to share with her concerning treatments. Help!

What can I do next?

The first thing that came to my head was a simple but beautiful diamond necklace, and put you are "priceless" on the card when you give it to her...
I'm sure you will get lots of better suggestions, this is what first popped into my head...

Being a previous IVF patient I know how she feels. It is the hardest and heart aching thing to go through. It does not sound like her doctor (RE) was too helpful. She needs to talk to Dr. Robert Kaufman in Fort Worth. He makes miracles happen! Good luck to both of you!

Ok- I don't have any advice on a gift, but here is a website for Advanced Reproductive Center of Irving... they have a lot of information on there (including cost). Hopefully their insurance will cover- I know they accept most insurance... ivfmd.net
Drs are wonderful & have been doing treatment for a long time!
Hope that will encourage her.

Ah - your poor friend! Seeing other people pregnant (friends or not) can be very difficult when you can't get pregnant yourself. Helping with your shower may give herself hope and also take her mind off the negative things that are happening.

I can't think of a great gift off hand, but tell her she needs to get a new doctor! I don't know where she is in the metroplex, but there are several good IVF docs in the area. Its very emotional and she really needs to have someone who knows what they are doing.

I hope you have/had a great a shower!

Tell your friend to give Dr. James Douglas or Dr. Barnett.
