My husband and I are expecting our first little girl in about 4 weeks. We have been looking at various brands and style of baby monitors, but does anyone have any suggestions on what they feel is the best brand or works the best? Any suggestions would be helpful as this is still so new to us.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone for your great advice!!! And yes it's all so much and scary sometimes. My co-worker actually had a monitor set that she gave us today. She said the same thing, as she has the baby with her more often then not and so she wasn't using it. So that helped eliminate the choice for now, my hubby and I are still looking at the other monitors too in case something happens to it or we don't like this one. Our biggest problem is that we didn't really get any big items from both of my baby showers and so we are buying a lot of items and wow, good thing we were so good about saving in advance lol. Once again thank you for all the great suggestions!!!

Congratulations on your soon to be arrival! It's all very exciting and confusing at the same time-huh?
Most of the monitors on the market these days work great. Try to find one that has two recievers..this comes in handy believe me! Good luck! You'll do great-don't sweat the small stuff! H.

We bought a pretty basic Graco monitor, that came with 2 monitors. It has worked well, never any problems with interference or picking up other signals and was realatively inexpensive. I'd get a similar one if I were to buy one again, but might look into the two-way monitor that you could reassure your child if you were in the shower and they woke up or whatever.
Good luck!

I HIGHLY recommend the AngelCare monitor! It is pricey ($75-100) but TOTALLY worth it. It will alert you if your baby stops breathing. In my opinion, you can never be too safe. Not to scare you, but I have a friend whose baby would still be alive today if she had this monitor.

I was super paranoid about SIDS, so I bought the angelcare monitor. It has an alarm that sounds if breathing stops. It was a godsend for my sanity.

First off let me just tell you my daughter's birthday is the 30th of Oct and we LOVE IT! I wanted to have her on Halloween, it being my favorite holiday.
Paige thinks it's neat to have 2 days of partying. We celebrate her DAY and do halloween the next. We don't combined, because we want it to be her birthday...I guess when she gets older she can decide.

As for as a monitor....I found any work great. I didn't have much money to get the big fancy-shmancy kind so I just got what I could afford..and honestly, didn't use it much at all. My babies were always with me, it was kind of a waste actually. If you're dead set on one you might want to check out Kid 2 Kid and get a gently used one

I just bought a basic monitor for about $30. It's made by the first years and it works great. My son is almost 2 now and I still use it on him. I think it's great to have a monitor on and be able to use it to tend to your childs needs, but I don't think anything top of the line works that much better.
