Josie,
I have a weight management program that lets you lose fat and not muscle. It is safe and works great for belly fat. I lost 3.5 inches off my waist 3 years ago and it has stayed off. Let me know if you are interested.

I had a belly (lower) that went away quickly from Pilates. I found a basic Pilates routine in a magazine and I did it for three weeks and the difference was amazing!

Pilates is all about "core muscles", and that is your middle, abs/back.

Cut grains out of your diet.....it's amazing how much belly fat you will lose. Check out the book "The New Glycemic Revolution" for tips on eating low glycemic foods.

Belly fat and hip fat...or thigh fat...wherever it is...is nearly impossible to "spot treat" and make it go away!
You must eat a healthy diet low or totally absent in white breads and flours and added sugars, and get rid of all high fructose corn syrup!
Cardiovascular exercise, which raises your heart rate for 20+ minutes a day 4 -5 times a week is good for all over fat burning! Yoga and pilates are great for core strenght, but please know if you don't get in cardio work and change your nutrition, both, then you will not be getting the full benefit from yoga and pilates.
I have a woman in my yoga class (and has been for 6 years). She does yoga 4 times a week but won't change her eating habits and will not walk, swim or use the elliptical. She adds about 5 lbs. to her frame every year.

You can do all the crunches in the world but if you're not paying attention to your nutrition all you'll end up with is well-insulated abs.

Eat a diet full of 'natural' food - things that are closest to how they exist in nature, like fresh fruits, vegetables, etc. Avoid overly processed foods and refined sugars.

Do exercises that work more than just your abs. You need to engage your transverse and int/ext obliques. Two good exercises for this are elevators and plank. For the elevators lie flat on your back with your knees bent. Imagine your belly button is and elevator and use your muscles to pull it up and back toward your backbone. Hold thirty seconds (breathe, don't hold your breath) and release. Once you get a good handle on doing these, you can do them anywhere - sitting watching tv, driving in the car, sitting at the park with your kids during a playdate, etc. For the plank, lie face-down on the floor to start. Raise up on your forearms and toes and hold your body still - it should be parallel to the ground (don't sag hips down and don't raise your butt up). As a beginner, hold for 10-15 seconds. Gradually increase that time to 30 seconds. Also, as you become more adept at the plank and your core becomes stronger, you can add side planks. They're the same as basic planks, but you rest on your elbow/forearm and feed on one side.

Crunches are okay but you have to have perfect form. The majority of people who do crunches do them incorrectly and wind up working their hip flexors.

I second pilates - all I have is a brochure with ten different moves/positions and it has flattened my belly and gotten rid of some "bra fat" - haha. It's taken about 4 weeks for others to really see the difference.

Not sure if you are speaking of just fat or lose skin. I can address the fat issue.
If you are pudgy in the middle cut out the carbs. You don't have to go Adkins or anything just processed carbs (white breads, white pasta and white rice), I'd eat all the veggies you want but for corn and potatoes. And eat brown rice, whole wheat bread and pasta sparingly. And the biggie is sugar. That will really add on the belly pounds. Soda is evil :) If you just HAVE to have something use honey but again very sparingly.I would start keeping all the rules and then later after weight loss you can try adding some thing back in keeping an eye on your weight.
You'll be amazed with your results.
Best Regards,
C.

I wanted to know the same thing so I looked it up and reviewed a bunch of different things. The one system I found with the best reviews by far was the Fit Yummy Mummy system. It is designed with us mommies in mind. I have been doing it and have noticed a significant difference in my belly fat. It is not just a diet but a whole change in the way we live our lives. I have noticed that I have more energy and spend more time with my kids now.

Good Luck! I hope this system helps!

Ah, the belly fat issue! Yeah, I've got it, as do most. I didn't have it before having babies. But I've noticed a few things...

When I stick to a low processed food and minimal dairy diet, my belly fat diminishes. Which means I can eat everything else! As much fresh produce as I want, which includes high fat foods like avocados and nuts...yummy! As much lean protein as I want...I stick to fish, chicken, beans, hummus, and the occasional lean beef.

What I try not to eat unless at an occasion like a party....
White flour
High Fructose Corn Syrup
Candy
Cookies
Cakes
Chips
Soda, Juice, Flavored Waters
Hydrogenated Oils
Dairy

I found a chocolate protein powder that mixes well with water and tastes
fantastic. It makes wonderful smoothies in the morning:

5 ice cubes
1 scoop powder
frozen fruit
2 tblsp coconut or almond milk

I eat a lot of stir fry...
brown rice
meat
veggies
oil
spices

I am not afraid of potatoes - you can make them in many ways that do not include butter, sour cream, bacon, etc. And sweet potatoes are a great variation.

Bake them at 300 for 1 hour. Let cool a while. Slice them into wedges. Then pour olive oil and spices on top. Broil them in the oven until the edges are crispy. Salt them and you have a great finger food!

Try Quinoa - cooks just like rice. Has a nutty flavor to it. Replaces rice or noodles in your favorite dishes. It's high in fiber and protein.

Get your cardio in. Diet first, exercise second. Plus, experts say that 20 minutes of walking a day can cure mild depression or mood swings!

You'll feel great and your body will be slimmer!

Hi Josie,

Belly fat, especially when you don't have much extra in other areas, is caused by a build-up of synthetic chemicals. Processed or packaged foods (and of course fast foods) deposit all the chemicals...pesticides, preservatives, hormones, antibiotics, etc and the fat creates what is now called a muffin top. If you look at old pictures, about 50 or more years ago, FAT people didn't even protrude that much at the belly. The "beer gut" was caused by the toxicity of the beer and it was usually on a man that drank toooo much. Now, I would say that beer is safer than soft drinks....

A good absorbable multivitamin/mineral complex took 110 pounds off my husband. He simply needed the detox. If you want more information, I'll be glad to share it...

Hi Josie,

I have started taking Acai and I have lost 13 pounds since I've started taking it. I use to drink soda pop everyday and since I've started taking it, I haven't had any and no caffiene withdrawals from it. I hope that this helps!

You can NOT spot reduce - and that thing about synthetic chemicals - I'd like to see some studies on that. The bottom line is people have different body shapes i.e. they store fat differently - as you know, some women are apples - carrying weight around the middle, some are pears - carrying weight around the thighs.

The first place you gain weight is the last place it will go. I am an apple. Even when I am at my absolute thinnest, the tiny bit of fat I have is in my lower abdominal area. As soon as I start to gain weight, my lower abdomen gets fatter. Yes, you can do some muscle toning exercises to strengthen your abdominal muscles, however, if you have a layer of fat because you carry your fat in your abdomen, no amount of situps will make that go away. You have to lose the weight and lose the fat, in order for any muscle to be visible.

The belly fat goes last!! You can't spot treat it! Do all over muscle burning and cardio and natural diet until there's no fat left. The last fat to go is that pooch. Sad but true! I lost all my weight AND the belly (last) and then gained a few pounds, and horror of horror-the belly came back! I never used to gain there first before kids (it went to face, which isn't much better) but now, any extra weight I have is the belly. Agreed-yoga is the healthiest thing you can do for yourself if you do it frequently, but not the best fat and belly burner. Just go old school weight training and cardio. Diet is the most important.
