Belly Belts

I'm 28 weeks into my third pregnancy and feel like I'm 41 weeks. My doctor says it's not unusual for the third kid to sit low and cause a lot of pressure on the pelvic floor. She suggested I try a belly belt. I tried a hand me down from a friend but I think it was too big. I checked on line and there are a few different types at varying price levels. On Motherhood.com there's a "Maternity Support Belt" for nearly $40! There's also "The Ultimate Maternity Belt" for $18. Any suggestions? I don't want to waste $ but I need help, so I'll spend my money if other's have had success.
Thanks,
K.

Lady Grace in Tyngsboro across from the Phaesant Lane Mall carries them and the staff is very helpful with fittings. ###-###-#### There are probably other locations where you can try one in a store before buying.

That is a link to the belt I would recommend. I also had read that you should put it on at a particular time. Not exactly sure if it was before standing or just after getting out of bed and standing for the first time in the morning. The belt is to help with tone because after our first pregnancy's the tone of the ligaments and uterus is weak. Visit spinningbabies.com and under the three principals it talks about that.

Best of luck to you and you search for a belly belt.

I loved mine from Motherhood. They are expensive sometimes. Make sure you get the right size.

I had an easy time with my first pregnancy (boy) but felt exactly as you describe with my second (girl). She sat so low and I was so uncomfortable I remember feeling like she was going to fall out of me! I bought a belly belt at a friend's recommendation and it completely saved me -- no exaggeration. I loved it. Mine was relatively cheap -- I would say maybe $20 -- at Babies R Us.

Good luck!

I second the belt from Motherhood. I bought one for my third pregnancy and by wearing it every day I was able to get my swelling under control and I felt soooo much better. I also used the suspenders which made me feel like it was more solid and not sliding around. I also used it after the baby because I had a vertical C-section and it helped alot to hold the staples and keep my insides comfy.

K.,
When I was pregnant with my triplet boys, I purchased a belly belt/maternity suport beat. It was worth every cent I spent on it. It saved my belly, back and overall health in my pregnancy. I would suggest go-for-it. You will not be sorry. It is important you are fitted properly, do not scrimp on a one size fits all. I still have mine, my triplet boys turned 20 in September, and it was a life/belly saver for me. W.

I had good deal of middle back pressure during the second trimester of my pregnancy and bought the $38 Maternity Support Belt. Although I only ended up using the belt portion (the rest of the contraption was a little too constricting for me), I found the belt to wider and a little plusher than some of the belts sold by themselves. It was comfortable, easy to conceal under clothing and most importantly it worked - as long as I had it adjusted correctly. I stopped needing to use it some time around the third trimester.

I am in my second pregnancy and had the same thing happen right about that time. I asked the Dr. about it and he said it was normal but all I could think is that I couldn't handle that type of activity for the next 12 weeks. But it passed on its own after about a week and a half. I'm at 35 weeks now and haven't felt that type of movement for over a month now so I'm guessing he just moved around. Maybe it will be the same for you.

I just had my third baby and bought a BellaBands in the last couple of weeks of the pregnancy. I really wish I'd bought it sooner. It made me so much more comfortable, and now I'm using it to fit into my regular pants without the zipper done up. They are a little pricy but are so useful. They come in all sorts of colors, so it ends up looking more like you've got another shirt on underneath your real one rather than a maternity band, and you can wear them folded in half for more lower-abdomen or pants support or not folded for full tummy support. I can tell that the correct size would be really important, though.

Hi K.,
Here's a link to a very nice lady who helped fit me with my belly belt two years ago. She was recommended by the fetal nurse at my OB in Swampscott, http://www.fittingsbyfaith.com/
It was completely covered by my PPO insurance plan. Faith will put the insurance through for you. Very nice lady, who said to me "I just love to help pregnant women feel better." The address is in the building just outside the main entrance to Salem Hospital or a.k.a. North Shore Medical Center, Salem. Good luck. The belt certainly helped me and I was only on baby #1.
