Beer & Pregnancy

My home pregnancy test is positive, unfortunately not knowingly that I am, I had 3 bear bottles each for 4 nights last week, will it affect to my pregnancy? Please help. Earlier also I had a miscarriage at it's 2nd month, Doctor told the fetus is not properly grown.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thanks mums

I was worried about this too with my first child and i asked the doctor about it. He told me that most (or many) children are conceived in a haze of alcohol and that it would be fine. It was :-). Very soon i couldn't even stomach the thought of alcohol!

It should not. For the first few weeks of a pregnancy, the baby isn't really taking any nutrients from you, but from the egg sac, so the alcohol won't really affect it. Also, you have to drink a lot to cause fetal alcohol syndrome -- it won't happen from an occasional beer (although you did drink more than an occasional beer, I'm just saying that you have to drink pretty heavily to cause it).

Just don't drink any more, or if you do, wait until after the first trimester and only have small amounts. THe baby should be fine.

I tried to get pregnant for year! I took my vitamins every day, ate right, etc. The anniversary of our first loss was Feb. 7th. I swore that if I wasn't pregnant by the year mark that I was going to stop trying. The day came and went and I got depressed. I was SO depressed that I spent 5 days being a drunkard! I was drinking about 6 beers and 3 or 4 shots of whiskey every night for almost a week! Then, I found out that I was expecting! Totally freaked! My little girl is almost 4 now and is the smartest kid I know!!!! I would NOT worry about what you did in the first few weeks. I'm sure your baby will be just fine!

It's highly unlikely the beer will affect your pregnancy. With my first I told my doctor that I had A LOT (and I mean A LOT) to drink the weekend before I found out I was pregnant. I had also been drinking my regular amount that entire month -two or three nights a week with two or three drinks. The weekend before I found out I was pregnant my husband and I celebrated our 5th anniversary. Friday night was spent at an opulent dinner and a hotel where bottles of wine and champagne were consumed as well as some house-infused vodka at the restaurant. Saturday night we threw a huge party at our house and I drank these special rum concoctions I came up with just for that evening. I also smoked about two packs of cigarettes that weekend!

With the second baby, the night before we officially decided to "try" again, we had about 3 bottles of wine -and again -a lot of cigarettes. The next morning it dawned on me I should have gotten my period and whoops -I was already pregnant! Both children are perfectly fine and wonderful!

My OB GYN told me with the first that if she even had a nickel for every woman who told her she had gotten drunk, smoked pot, been drinking heavily, etc. before finding out she was pregnant, she would have retired a long time ago! OF course that's finding out you're pregnant within a normal amount of time -not at 5 months or anything. As long as you quit drinking the minute you find out, everything should be okay!

I was drunk as a skunk the weekend before I found out that I was pregnant, as was my husband, we had been out at our favorite bar.

Our nearly 6 year old is perfect, healthy, smart and has ZERO issues related to alcohol.

Just don't drink anymore :)

I had been drinking some cocktails, eating sushi and got my hair colored all in the first month before I knew I was pregnant, and everything went fine. Once I knew I was pregnant, no more drinking! Like others have said, babies are mostly affected if the mother drinks heavily throughout the whole pregnancy. Before we knew better, it was thought to be perfectly okay for a pregnant women to drink alcohol while pregnant - of course now we know otherwise, but even then, most babies still turned out okay. Don't beat yourself up over it.

I think it's ok - don't beat yourself up over it. Now that you know, just don't drink anymore and I don't think you have to worry.

You must not worry about what you did not know. Most every woman has experienced this and I'm sure these women had babies that turned out just as healthy as can be. What you must focus on now is that you know you are pregnant and you must stay away from harmful substances from this day forward.

We've all been there, well most of us LOL. Your baby will be fine. Just be healthy and safe the rest of your pregnancy! I believe the fetus gets nourishment strictly from the sac the first 12 weeks or so.
Either way, it will be fine. Relax, and congrats :)

Because of my career I'm familiar with the affects of alcohol on babies. Those who have babies affected by alcohol, consumed large amounts throughout their pregnancy. And....the alcohol affected the way that the baby developed in specific ways such as formation of facial features, brain activity. None of that is happening during the first month. Your baby will be fine. Also beer has very little alcohol.
