As long as the itching/burning is localized, just wait it out. You don't need a doctor to tell you to just wait and it will go away. But if you are breaking out in hives or any severe itching or swelling anywhere else on your body, especially you lips, mouth, tongue or throat, get to a doctor immediately.
For a local reaction, you might get relief from a paste of either papaya- or pineapple-based meat tenderize, or baking soda. Cortisone cream may help. A homeopathic cream called Sting-Stop (from health food stores) is very effective for me.

Benadryl or other antihistimines like Claritin, taken orally will help.
These being a systemic help for the reaction.
Creams/ointments, will help topically & locally...
You can use both.
The Benadryl, will probably make you drowsy.
The Claritin won't.
Apple Cider vinegar, rubbed on the sting with a moistened cotton ball, will also work.
Also: Fresh basil leaves cut up and applied to the sting, will also help.
Applying mustard to the area will also help.
many natural things, to apply topically, that can help.
All the best,
Susan

Get some meat tenderizer at the grocery store if you don't already have some. Make it into a thick paste and slather it on the sting. It will draw the poision out and help to soothe the sting quicker. My mom, the nurse, used to do this as a first-aid for my sister (who is allergic to bee stings) and it always kept it from getting too bad. That was before they got her anaphilactic kit (did I spell that right?).

Put Benadryl directly on the bee sting. Take benadryl as long as your not allergic to it if symptoms progress. Helps stop the swelling, red mark & itching. If you have more swelling, effects your breathing or throat call 911

Make sure you got the stinger out, but I don't think it sounds like you are having an allergic reaction...I would clean the area and mix a little baking soda with water to make a paste. This will help sooth it.

I don't think a doctor is necessary if the only swelling that you have is where the sting occurred. Benedryl will help with both the swelling and itching. Hydrocortizone cream with help with the itch.
