I broke my right ankle three weeks ago and haven't been able to leave the house in three weeks! I'm having hypertension problems with this pregnancy now, so even tho my ankle is feeling better (although I'm still casted for at least two more weeks) I'm pretty much on bed rest. I have at least six weeks to go still! I was on bed rest for five weeks with my first, but it's already been three and I have six to eight to go. I feel like Im losing my mind. My 18 month old son suffers cause he can't go outside either. Any tips?

What can I do next?

Hi B.!

I know exactly how you feel. I am also on bedrest, have been for about 3 weeks. I have a 2 year old son and it has been really hetic and stressful. What my husband and I have done is set up a bunch of his toys in the den where I can see him, we set up snacks in the refrig that he could reach with several cups of juice, and also his favorite movies that we can put on while I sit and read. When daddy comes home he takes him for a walk or just some boy time play time. This has really helped. It just depends on what you little one likes to do. I hope this helps a little. I am do off bed rest on Saturday and am really looking forward to it. Good luck to you and I hope everything goes well. If you have any questions or just need to vent don't hesitate to e-mail me. You can reach me at ____@____.com.

Oh dear. I also had PIH but not until the end. Only was on bed rest for 1 week before she took the baby early. I went bonkers. I still had my daughter at daycare as it was already paid for so I don't have any suggestions that worked. But I can suggest maybe some interactive videos, coloring with washable colors, gluing noodles onto construction paper... Take a trip to the craft store and see what you can muster up. I hope this helps. Good luck to you, hang in there.

I had a 2 1/2yo son went I went on bedrest for about a month with my last baby. My son hated it! Read books, playdoh, color (those colorwonder markers are great!), have grandparents take him for a few hours, maybe dh can take him to the park or a walk around the block when he gets home. We would have been cooped up inside anyway since it was June but I understand. Build a fort with a couple chairs, blankets and pillows. Anything new and interesting will help him forget. Good luck!
