Barretts for an Infant

I finally have a little girl and I am at my wits end. She is nine weeks old and has a TON of hair. It is hillarious. We would like to be able to put a barrette in it but can't find any that stay in. I know that they used to make velcro ones but I am unable to find them anywhere. I stopped in Gymborree yesturday and they had something that may have worked, a fabric covered clip but the flower on it was HUGE. I would like her to look nice and refuse to use the elastic head bands. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I first of all want to thank all of you for your help! I went to Claires and found it very affordable and cute too. Our Walmart does not have but one selection and we tried it (maybe I needed to go to a Super Walmart). We only have a Toys R us and they did not have what I needed either. I love the websites that were suggested. I wish I could spend what ever I wanted! Lily and I thank you very much for all of your suggestions. She was cute with her out of control hair and now she is even cuter with a little accesorie to go in it! THANKS!

Please be careful since hair clips can be a choking hazard for both the infant and their siblings. Also when sleeping be careful that the hard ones don't cut their head when they lay on them.

I had the same problem as you and while shopping at Claire's for my little sister, I found they have a whole baby line of barrettes, including the velcro ones! Really cheap too, and now my daughter can actually have something in her hair (we don't use those headbands either). Check it out!

You could always get velcro and glue or sew little things on them. That way its exactly what you want and its personalized. You can get velcro at walmart or any fabric store. Use your inanigation, there is so much out there that you could use as a decorative piece. Plus it would probably be cheaper in the long run.

Congrats on your girl! Kids Hair sells barrets, I think the alligator clip ones. Otherwise if you are at all crafty you can buy plain metal alligator clips and then ribbon and a few little embelishments from JoAnn fabrics and wrap it and use hot glue. Pretty easy and inexpensive.

I know the ladies that run the above web site and they can personalize bows for your little girl. They hand make all the bows themselves and can make the bows/bands/barrettes as small or large as you like. Good luck!

Dear A.;
Your child is to small to put any kind of hair peice in her hair, I understand that you are excited that you have a girl, but take it from me, mother of 2 full headed girls at birth, you can break off your childs hair, cause damage to the skull...number of things...you should wait until the child is at least 1....I know it is alot of hair, but, it would be better for you and your child if you wait, dont learn the hard way like i did. Wal-mart always has a great selection with no huge price tags. In the baby clothes section though, not by the regular hair accessories.

My daughter at 16 months finally has enough hair to wear barretts! But the velcro ones and every one I have bought from Walmart, Target or Shopko slip and fall out of her hair.

I just recently found these on Ebay - they are awesome! They stay in the finest hair.

I also purchased some from this site (much more expensive, very cute but my daughter can pull them out).

Have fun shopping (I actually have purchased more of the Alexa's ones from Ebay just yesterday!)

Go to walmart they have velcro ones and they have ones that are plastic kinda like a ziploc bag. IF you can't find them let me know I still have the ones from my daughter.

I found the velcro barrettes at ShopKo and they worked great on my daughter. I also used those soft pony tail holders that are a stretchy cloth. They were in the girls section of the store and not with all the other hair stuff.

Good luck!

Once Upon a Child in Burnsville (and maybe other locations) has infant barrettes that are very cute. They use alligator clips which stay very well in my daughters thin hair. Good luck!

I would try Oh Baby in the Galleria in Edina. They make great barrettes, they are more on the expensive side but are worth it. They are soft and work great for baby's fine hair. They have tons of styles and selection too. Congrats on your baby girl!!

Check Walgreens. I don't recall the brand, but I found some colorful metal barrets that are lined with rubber. They work great on my daughters hair, which is very fine, and the rubber seems to prevent the hair from getting tangled in the barrett unlike the barrets my mom put in my hair years ago.
